Cabot 140.0003459.007 Australian Timber Oil Stain, Gallon, Mahogany Flame

We built a chicken coop and used this stain. This stain is beautiful and applies easily. HOWEVER, be aware of packaging. We were so surprised that the can lid did not pop off. If it had not been for some clamps that were place on the top, it would have popped off. The can rim and the can itself was bent in terribly. Once we open the can, we will not be able to close the lid. The can was just shipped in a cardboard box - not bubble wraped or anything else to protect the can.

I’m not a fan of painting or staining projects, but this product made it about as easy and stress-free as it gets. Cabot Australian Timber Oil soaked into the wood quickly, went on smoothly, and gave an immediate rich, vibrant finish. It actually made me feel confident taking on the whole deck myself. The final result looks fantastic and completely transformed the space. Highly recommend.

There is nothing better than the oil base version of this product. There was a time when I couldn't get the oil base version of the product, I tried the most expensive Ben Moore product It didn't even last the summer. Two coats of Cabot Australian Timber Oil Wood Stain will last 3 to 5 years on my deck. Cabot Australian Timber Oil Wood Stain is the one to start with and stay with.

Photos show a 10-year neglected deck before and after. I bought the house and found a half-empty gallon of Australian Timber Oil in the basement. Granted, I needed to replace many of the badly rotted deck boards but I used regular yellow pine 5/5 X 6 lumber instead of the original mahogany. Imagine neglecting a mahogany wood deck.The (kept) boards were scrubbed with hot water/peroxide/baking soda and light power wash down then allowed to dry for three days of sun before staining (the new boards were stained on the sides as they were installed).First coat was with roller. I waited a few days (the old boards soaked it up right away but the new wood needed some time to lose it's tackiness) Second coat with brush- gets more coverage.Here are two photos; first one shows most of the deck after and the first one shows the difference on the steps.The kicker: Of course I needed more stain than what was left in the can in the basement. So I went to ordered more from Amazon and all was well. Then I needed more but it took three weeks so I went instead to Aboffs and ordered the same stain (which they do not carry or sell the brand) and got it in one day. It was the "blue label" and water-clean up not mineral spirits clean up. That told the whole story. To their credit they took it back no problem even a long time later.I ordered more from Amazon and this time the shipping was two or three days not three weeks.I ordered even more to have it on hand since in my state it is "no longer legal" to sell the oil-based version. Ain't that a kick in the head. But then again... you know the story when it comes to you know what...

Having used many products over the years, and with a preference for non-water based, this is pretty good.Longevity? Who knows, I'll find out.It is fairly opaque and is not what I'd call a "stain", so be careful with that preconception if have that thought. It does not stain the wood. I've had rough parts chip up from stuff moved on the wood, and the lighter color comes through, like a paint chip. Any chip can do that, but is more of a well colored oil that sits more on the surface of the wood. So, as they advise, one, light/moderate coat, and that's it.It is all I needed. A heavy coat, or where I got heavy, it's still "sticky" even a month later and with all the 100F+ weeks long temps. But, I'm fine with that, it's not a problem for me. Just be mindful of that.Our application went best by, simply heavy brush dabbing it then using a tight roller to spread it. One could even just poor it, but we felt the big ole dabbing brush was just right on the, especially the no gap porch floor boards area.As long as the price remains reasonable, I'd recommend it.I'd offer, regardless of any other use, I felt I could have thinned it and been fine. But if have multiple cans, gotta do all that same same, can't be different can to can.I hope that helps someone.
