Does this get rid of red algae?

This product is designed to clear cloudy water. and it works great for that. This is not an algeacide. you might have pink slime which is sometimes called red algae.

Why is it 3x as expensive as my local pool supply?

there are different sellers on Amazon. If you can get it cheaper from a local pool supply, that's what I would do. It is more expensive at my pool supply store.

How soon after adding this can i shock my pool?

From my understanding of its use they’re independent of one another. Use this to grab all the junk in the water column and aprox 24 hrs later it all has settled on the bottom you need to vacuum up. Shock is completely separate but I wouldn’t until after I vacuum it up and out

is this a powder, tablets, liquid?

It's a granular/powder that you sprinkle (1/3 to 1/2 bottle) into your skimmer while pump is running normally. Ends up in the filter where it assists in collecting debris/algae, etc. When you notice the pressure gauge has increased 8-10 pts or so, it is time to backwash and rinse. Can also be used diluted and sprinkled over the water into the pool, allowed to "sit" for 24-48 hours and then you can vacuum what it has collected. Good product!

This stuff is MAGIC!!! Best thing for cloudy pool water!

I have a 18ft above-ground pool and tried so many things to clear up the cloudy water nothing worked… until THIS!! I was honestly so frustrated but I poured this in late at night and the next morning my pool was crystal clear! 😍 This is the ONLY thing that worked and it worked fast. I’m seriously beyond happy and relieved. If you’re struggling with cloudy pool water don’t waste money or time on anything else get this I promise you!!! Love this stuff.

Love this stuff for clearing cloudy water. Years ago I had a pool guy tell me to clear up cloudy water by pouring about 1/2 bottle in the skimmer and let it coat the sand in the sand filter for 24 hours. Bam!! Clear water overnight. Backwash and love your pool again.
