Gorton air valves are the best
I have a number of Gorton air valves on my steam heating system that have been in service for more than 30 years without a problem. I expect this valve will outlive me. Expensive but worth the price.

Better than the valve it replaced
Hisses when the radiator is filling, gurgles and fills with water, and does not completely shut. Better than the valve it replaced. Part of the problem may be the steam pressure in the building.

My master plumber recommended this vents. It's the third brand that I've used in my 100 year-old home.

Don't waste your time on anything else.
