TayMac MM710C, 4 3/4-Inches Deep, Clear Finish, 1 Gang

I live in a cold winter climate. Need to keep some outdoor extension cords plugged in for several months. These outlet covers are deep enough to cover the plug and close with ease. Very little bending of the cord to get them inside but I am skeptical that I could actually fit two cords inside and still close the cover. The covers do stick out from the wall a lot. I will have to get in the habit of being aware of them so I don't keep bumping into them, however they were so easy to install that I plan to just change them back to the flat covers for the summer.

Easy to install and does the job.

I replaced my 20-year-old home's original outdoor outlet covers with a couple of these Taymac brand covers. Now if you are shopping for one of these, you may have noticed that Taymac sells the cover in a few different sizes of depth. I have literally used all 3 and I'd highly suggest the 3.5" one if you want to just have a casual use outlet where a plug may stay plugged in for a couple of days (or during Christmas). Most 14- and 16-gague power cords will work great with either the 3.5" or this 4.75" cover. However, I'd recommend the latter with a 12-gauge power cord or other thicker cords. The 2" version will not close with any extension cord that I've tried on it thus far. This cover works in both vertical and horizontal configurations (my home uses horizontal) and it comes with a few parts that will help it conform to most outlet configurations. I'd highly recommend this as it will help keep the outlet dry and keep your breaker on (safely) during rain.

I was skeptical about how easy this cover would be to install and how secure it would be, but the installation wasn't bad, and it is securely in place. I would order this again for outside outlets with cords semi-permanently connected.

Excellent product, depth is perfect for piggy back chords. Tricky getting cover on - took me about 20 mins to get it right.

installation was super easy. It appears to be made of durable material and seems like it should hold up well. I got the larger case because I bought a smart wifi plug that I wanted to then connect patio lighting to. This worked out perfect and there was plenty of space to connect both plugs in the box. Now we can turn on/off our patio lights with our phone or set them to do it on a schedule. The waterproof box was needed to protect the smart plug, and so far has been holding up well.

I really needed a deep one as I have two outdoor receptacles, each with two relatively heavy duty cords plugged into them. Despite some other reviews I found the one center cutout when used vertically was sufficient to rout out both cords and still snap the door shut. Installation is not even 5 minutes up to the point of installing the clear door. What is happening there is, there are four short, horizontal, molded hing pegs that correspond to four flanges each with a hole to receive the peg. It would be a cinch but the two centre ones are half round on profile with a setback barb. The obvious intention is that once installed the barbs will make sure the door cannot come back off. However, the barbs are too stiff and no amount of reasonable force I could apply to a plastic door with plastic hanges would get the door to slide enough for the barbs to click into place. Also, at the angle the door needs to be at to install it will block access to the upper mounting screw. So, you can't pre-install the door on a bench and then install it all at one time. If so, you'll never get the essential top screw into the backing plate. So, after too much futzing with this door I got some diagional cutting pliers ("dikes") and simply cut the two center pegs just past the barb - removing the barbs. The door then slid on in one second. There seems really little need for these barbed retainers as you would have to intentionally slide the door right, while the door is open, to get it to come off. I opened each a dozen times with the cords plugged in and neither made the slightest move to come off to the right. Of course, if you cut the barbs off that's forever - So, consider your options carefully. Perhaps you will get lucky and the barbs will deflect enought for you to get the door on as designed. But, for me I rated this 3 stars because of this barbed hinge peg nonsense. I saw others with more robust and inutuitive hinge setups but none were nearly as deep as this one at 4.5 inches. Otherwise I would have headed the warnings of others and bought ones with a different hinge/door installation arrangment.

Was able to install this horizontally, which is exactly what I was looking for. I really like that it has enough space inside so that the extension cord can bend (see photo) and fit. My outdoor extension cord is more heavy duty and thick so it definitely needed that extra room. Very easy to install and came with many extra/different cutouts to fit any kind of outlet. Completely rain proof and works well.

Es muy bueno para proteger tomacorrientes o contactos donde están a la intemperie, en mi caso los uso donde hay agua cerca y pudiera caerles. Es facil de instalar y el interior es muy amplio, suficiente para poder dar vuelta a cables gruesos 180 grados y podemos canalizarlos a la salida sin problemas. El bloqueo también es muy bueno y puede instalarse tanto vertical como horizontalmente.
