Maintal Gooseberry Premium Preserve Extra, 12 Ounce

Have tried most of the gooseberry jams on Amazon. So far, this one comes closest to my memory of childhood gooseberries. (The Russian one comes in second.) It’s fruity, not too, too sweet, thick enough without being stiff and sticky. Pricy, though. . .

Quite sweet, but very tasty ... great for toast, crumpets and crepes. Thumbs up

This fruit spread is better that the preserves. It has big chunks, more than the more expensive preserves and it's just a spread. Tastes the closest that I have found to homemade gooseberry jam, preserves, etc. It tastes fresh and is very sweet. However, it does have the tart kick to it as it is supposed to. The preserves is too sweet and doesn't have the tartness as it should. The preserves are a different brand of course. This Gooseberry spread is, in my opinion pure gooseberry preserves because of big chunks of the berries. I most likely will order more of it for the winter. The price is a bit steep. I grew up as a child in Germany loving gooseberries, where they're called 'Stachelbeeren' ('thorn berries' because of the prominent thorns on the bushes). They have a nice tart flavor in addition to the sugar, but are impossible to find fresh in the U.S., and finding the preserves is almost as hard. [Don't be fooled by the so-called 'Cape gooseberries' you might see, a completely different (and to me, uninteresting) fruit.]

Way to sweet, does not have the fresh tang of gooseberries.

If you like gooseberry, you will love this. Nice big berries included in the jam.

I live in the US and gooseberry is just not something I've ever seen where I live. I've been trying different snacks and things from different parts of the world and decided to give this one a try after attempting some plum preserves from the UK that was absolutely amazing. I had some welsh cakes on hand and decided to spread this on top. Wow! This stuff is delicious! It's not too sweet like some preserves are and has a nice flavor with just a bit of tartness. I can't believe I've been missing out all these years. I would definitely buy this again. It's so good.

I liked eating this by itself. It wasn’t so horribly sugary sweet it was balanced . To me It was a right amount of sugar and the gooseberries were good; so overall I was happy with this purchase.
