In less than 24 hours after setting up a 10 gallon tank with this gravel, my fish (2 platys, 3 tetras, 1 Molly and 1 Chinese algae eater) started grasping for air, becoming more desperate as the time passed by. I discarded all the possible reasons why they would be lacking of air. It couldn't be ammonia since it was new water, I always use Prime and it doesn't harm them, filter was producing enough vibration to keep water oxygenated, decorations were the same used in their previous aquarium. Before 24 hours my Chinese algae eater died. I could only conclude that it was the gravel causing the problem. I decided to remove the gravel and use the only media I had from the smaller aquariums I had before. The result was happy fish being able to breathe again. This confirmed that it was the gravel causing the death of one of my fish and distress on the others, since the only change I made was the gravel.After I took out the gravel from the tank I noticed that some pieces had already lost color and some even kind of dissolved. Also, when I rinsed it at the beginning (and I rinsed it well) before placing it in the tank, I noticed the gravel had many small particles. Some of it were too small.
