Review: I bought some moulding for a frame around a fossil tiled backsplash for a dry bar, which's has nickel hardware. I bring that up because a wood frame would have been too dark and silver would have been too polished a look. I searched for iron metallic, but it came up too industrial, modern, and dark. I was shooting for an aged-looking frame, sans caulking, kind of a steam punk, old looking frame. So, I painted two coats of Jolie chalk paint in graphite on the frame. I looked for Jolie metallics but they were too bright. The pewter gave a nice depth without going black and heavy. I used a chalk paint brush to spread the pewter, but tamped the brush of excess to get a nice coverage without heavy brush marks, but still getting consistent coverage. It’s Beautiful and I haven’t added the clear wax yet, but will. I’ve used the wax on other projects and it’s so much better than clear coat. The small pot covered about 18’ of 2” wide moulding and there’s enough for a second coat, but I’m thinking the one coat is enough. I tried using the pewter without the base coat and straight onto wood but it didn’t have the depth and beautiful finish, so a proper base coat is needed. I want to change the color to the small lights in my hallway and the base is a brass finish.** A: If you use a good primer on it first, it should be good. I would be sure to look for a primer that is made for plastic or metal. **Q: Why are some color twice the price for the same quantity?** A: There are at least 3 reasons different colors would have different price tags. The first is economical due to the difference in cost of the materials & process to make it. They don't make all the different colors with the same recipe. The other reason is fashion trends- people will pay a higher price for the specific color they want. Are they going to change their entire decor plans to save that extra money? They charge more for colors that are popular or "hot" because they CAN. And lastly- not all colors are created equal. Some colors are winners. Some are butt ugly. Some are so ugly, I cringe to imagine how awful the colors that didn't make the cut must have been. So far I have used the silver and the Gold Mine colors. The silver is Fantastic. The color is very attractive. Amazing coverage! And it goes on so smooth. This little jar lasts and lasts. So when I needed metallic gold paint I assumed this was the brand to get. I was WRONG. Gold Mine is the ugly ginger stepsister. HORRIBLE color! Don't know how it made the cut. The coverage and consistency is vastly inferior. I have not tried the other colors. But if the reviews seem wildly inconsistent- now you know why. **Q: Is this paint waterproof? Would it work on a shower door?** A: if you're talking about the bathroom door, yes. But I don't know what a shower door is because they are usually made of glass. **Q: Can these metallic paints be mixed with each other? There isn’t quite the right color here but I think I could mix it.** A: Yes they can be mixed since they are water based. I am not sure what color you will get but no harm in mixing them.
