A beautifully illustrated, heartfelt story — and perfect for any little Lula!
I was so excited to come across this book for my niece, Lula — her name is quite unusual, so finding a story with her name in the title felt really special. Luckily, the book itself is just as lovely. The illustrations are whimsical and rich in colour, full of gentle movement and emotion that perfectly match the coastal setting. It’s a magical tale with real heart — the story centres on friendship, standing up for what’s right, and not being afraid to care deeply about something, even when others don’t understand. It’s also a gentle introduction to environmental themes and community, without feeling heavy-handed or overly moralistic. The sea monster is adorable (not scary at all!) and the relationship between Lula and the creature is really touching. It’s become a bedtime favourite already. Would recommend to anyone — especially if you happen to know a little Lula.
