My question was posted incorrectly. I am looking for a comfortable cane back chair for someone with a bad back. Are these comfortable?

I'm a bit confused by your question. I purchased these Country French Chairs these are NOT cain back chairs these are cushion back, and yes they are quite comfortable, solid, sturdy, and I would assume good for a bad back as they are a bit hard not soft.

Is the black fabic more of a dark grey fabic hard to tell in photos?

I purchased a light leather set, so I won't know. I absolutely love mine!

How much does each chair weigh?

Do not know, they are not very heavy nor too light.

Do these chairs have flame retardants or a strong chemical smell?

I am not sure how to answer this question… but to me there is no chemical smell from these chairs… but I am not sensitive to many smells in general. Chairs are of very good quality and they are beautiful! I love them
