The Sweet Smell of Christmas: A Christmas Scratch and Sniff Book for Kids (Scented Storybook)

I had a copy of this book as a child and still have it after all these years. However, the scents all smell like "book" now and despite my best efforts and memories of the smells, they were beginning to fade. All my kids love the book as well and enjoy scratching the stickers for tiny whiffs of the lingering scents. And then I found a new copy! I was so excited that it was still in print, and that the price was so low. I ordered a new copy for my kids to enjoy the actual scents with the story.The scents are apple pie, pine tree, gingerbread, peppermint, cocoa, and orange. All of them smell as good as I remember and they do make the book special. The story is also really cute and captures the excitement of getting ready for Christmas. The illustrations are pretty and the book has nice hard cover. The only difference I noticed was that the new copy has some glitter on the cover. My girls like this addition, but I don't really care either way. I love having the new copy of this, but I hung on to the old one for sentimental reasons. The "book" smell is another smell I associated with Christmas because of how much of a tradition this book became.

An adorable and fun book with scratch and sniff spots on every other page. Some of the scents are a bit vague but the story is cute and interesting enough on its own to make up for it.

Highly recommend this book for children of all ages. A MUST HAVE in our family and passed down for 3 generations, hopefully more. This is a book I had as a child, read to my children and now recently bought for my grandchild. It is a nice short story of a bear family getting ready for the Christmas holiday with scent stickers on some pages of smells typically associated with Christmas. It is well known that the more senses engaged in a memory, the more vivid the memory. Thus this book with the scents provide both a pleasant and familiar story that becomes nostalgic and well remembered. I have given this book to many children nieces, nephews and young friends of the family when they had children. The stickers on the 40+ year old book are worn out (sometimes i think i can faintly still smell them, though that may be just from memory or wishful thinking). Honestly I dont expect the scent to last to last 40+years, hence bought new ones for my youngest child-when Amazon was still new, and again recently [was super relieved it was still in print!]. I may contact the publishers though and see if i can get new scent stickers to replace them... Either way, HIGHLY recommend the Sweet Smell of Christmas!

I had this book as a kid, and held onto it to give to my future child. It was in good condition but the scratch-n-sniff stickers didn't have a smell anymore so I got a new one. This is just like the last one, and my son loves to read it during the holidays. It's a cute little story and has some fun Christmas smells like pine trees, pies, and gingerbread. Would make a great December 1st/Christmas eve box book.

A sweet Christmas story! Beautiful y illustrated. Loved this book as a child. Thought the scents would be more distinct and improved. Still a lovely book though.

I bought this for my grandson for Christmas as I used to read it to my son. It was always a holiday favorite book!

I had this book as a child and have been gifting it to nieces, nephews and their children for years. The scent lasts a long time (for years with resonable use).

This was my favorite Christmas book as a child and I bought it for my son this Christmas, in the hopes that he would love it as much as I did. Total disappointment! The stickers barely smell at all (the apple pie sticker not at all!), and the book is brand new. Total waste of money, as the fun is in smelling the stickers!

This is a wonderful story, and though it is older, it's a classic. As many parents can appreciate, there are some stories your children want to hear over and over that are not that enjoyable for the parent to read--this is not such a book. I enjoyed reading the story almost every night leading up to Christmas. I have read on amazon.com that the stickers do not hold their scent very well (and I did find this to be the case with Little Bunny Follows His Nose). The scents are obviously a big part of the appeal, so if the book isn't as fragrant next year I may try to find some essential oils I can add to it. But even if the scents fade, the story on its own is wonderful and something I know my children and I will enjoy for years to come.

Lovely book! Since we received it I have to read it every day to my daughter. She loves the smelly pictures. Unfortunately the smells don't last too long, but it's a beautiful, cute story. Well packaged and arrived on time.

There are countless Christmas books for children out there. But this one is unique by incorporating smells in addition to text and images. This makes it super fun to read as children will love to return to the smell of pine needles, candy cane, and Christmas pie. Amazing!
