The combined ergonomic writing pen and recessed characters really work! My almost 4 year old grandson, who previously struggled with forming characters , achieved competency on the first attempt. He was motivated by this success to keep completing pages on his own.

First off, the pen doesn't have directions, so it was a little trick to load. You don't pull off the top, but you go undo the bottom, slide in the cartridge, and done. The pen grip: I didn't think it would work, but it naturally had my 3yo holding the pen correctly when she hadn't been taught to yet. Only downside is that she chewed it up when no one was looking, but that's just toddler things. The tracing: It's easy to see and use. Yes, the pen tip is thin and the grooves are shallow enough to let the pen jump out, but that's the whole point of letting the kids practice. It's not going to be perfect and the book shouldn't be doing the writing for them. My 3yo was pressing pretty hard because she hasn't figured out a good pressure yet, but going slow and managed to trace it. It focused her and she generally did better on the next one and the next one. Plus, the ink disappears, everything resets. Nothing's wasted. The only problem I have is that I can't replace the pen grip. It's a product for toddlers+, it's going to get destroyed or lost. Offering replacements is just sensible. Still, it's an average pen, a different pen grip will fit, so it's not the end of the world.

I like the idea of these books. However, my child doesn't enjoy writing in them. He'll do the exercises with good penmanship, but for him it hasn't translated to better handwriting. Of course we could be practicing more, but my expectations were likely unrealistic. Now for the review of the product. The four books come spiral bound, and are good quality. There are two pens that come with the kit and 5 ink cartridges. The pens write exceptionally smoothly, and the disappearing ink is clear and marks well. It takes 5-10 minutes for the ink to disappear. The content in the books is clearly laid out, with the opportunity for LOTS of repetition. There is also a math book, which is a forced memorization exercise, versus a visual method to teach math. I like these books, the pens, and the content. Just learn from my mistake, and have reasonable expectations!

These are ok. Sometimes the letter will disappear before my kid even finishes the letter.

Has disappearing ink, and the groves make this perfect for practicing. She can use it over and over again.

Too much small size book.

These are fantastic, bought this for my 4 yr old and he loves getting to practice his writing. Ink really does disappear and gives him the opportunity to write over and over again.
