Making my own healthy taco bowl from start to finish is bliss and cost effective. Review: Great bowl maker with a learning curve - I love this product. It is simple and easy to use. Plug it in and it is on and unplug to turn off. Yes it has a short cord as it should because you want it on the counter. There is a bit of a learning curve in using this and not difficult. I use a nylon basting brush to lightly coat the top and bottom of the bowl maker with avocado oil while it is unplugged. Once it was oiled I closed it and plugged it in then waited until the unit heated. The green light on my unit turns amber and actually does not turn green. I used the nylon brush and coated both sides of the tortilla's with avocado oil. Once I had them oiled I put them in the bowl maker using my hand pushed it down to help get it started. I suggest using a dish towel, oven mitts, or in my case ove gloves to open and close the hot unit. The instructions say to wait about 3-4 minutes. This is the learning curve. I watch for the steam to stop coming from the unit and check to see if it is browned enough. I will then close the lid again to ensure the water has been baked off from the tortillas. The tortilla's come out very crispy. The bowls do have to cool completely for them to crisp. The first time the tortilla bowls were a bit chewy and not crispy. The second time I used more oil and left them longer. They came out crispier. The third time I left them until no more steam, opened and closed the lid to ensure all the water cooked off, then waited for the bowls to cool completely. Success. I am very happy with this purchase. I have not tried using the 10 inch tortillas because not sure it it will fit or not. I will update if I decide to try the larger tortilla. If you have some patience and are willing to "suffer" the learning curve you will be happy with the results. I would not let children help using this because the bowl maker gets extremely hot and the risk of burn is high. It is a non-stick and the size is perfect for 8 inch tortillas. There is no on/off button, gets extremely hot, and using protection for your hands is a must when opening and closing. I still would purchase again because it does not take very long to make and the success I have had is fantastic.

Definitely worth considering!
I'll be honest with you—I only bought this appliance because it was on sale. I already had a set of metal tortilla bowl makers that are used in an oven, and they work fine. To my surprise, this Nostalgia Taco Bowl maker also works well, and may be even easier. I would suggest that you spray both sides of the tortilla with cooking oil—or spreading butter on both sides—before putting it in the unit. Using a deep fryer may be the best way to make a taco bowl, but you need a deep fryer, and it may add calories to the dish. So— For a fast and easy way to make a tortilla taco bowl, this appliance is all you really need. Would I buy it at the regular retail price? Probably not. But either way, I doubt you will be disappointed. A taco salad really is fun to eat!
