It works if you do your part
Honestly, I wasn't too impressed when first using this, BUT, my opinion has changed. I snapped the lower finger off for the extractor installation side (looks like 2 prongs sticking out) I thought it was a cheap tool, but actual GI ones go for over twice what this cost, So I ordered another, meanwhile comparing prices on another E commerce site, I stumbled across actual GI replacement heads for the extractor removal part, I ordered 2 since I was buying a second tool. My replacement arrived broken already, Amazon immediately replaced it.My New tool arrived and got the job done. Meanwhile in the middle of working on 5 carbines, my replacement head arrived, I installed and first use, it broke. So my thinking was Original GI has to be better, it is, but by a very small margin. So my opinion of what I thought was a cheap replacement for a GI tool, went up to believing it's 99% as good as the GI if you do your part. What do I mean by do your part?, I imagine seasoned users already know, But when screwing the bolt forward it's critical to watch the extractor pin and make sure it's moving inward and seating, if you keep applying pressure and the pin gets hung up like I did without realizing, SNAP!!!, You need a New tool or replacement head. - For those unsure how to use this tool, YouTube is your friend. - I knew going in the flat side of the extractor pin must face towards the bottom of the bolt, that pin is tiny, so check it and recheck then make sure the split prong actually grabs the pin, then make sure as you turn, that pin is seating into it's hole, if not, back off, wiggle the pin a little and keep trying, a little grease or even oil on that extractor spring helps hold that pin in place instead of falling out and getting lost easily. I hope that description helps somebody going forward.

A "must have" tool if you work on M1 Carbines!
This thing works great! It makes a damn near impossible job (removing/installing the extractor) a piece of cake. As a gunsmith, I highly recommend it.

It Works
Disassembly of a carbine bolt is pretty much impossible without this tool. It allows you to replace the extractor, the extractor spring & the firing pin on an 80 year old rifle like a competent gunsmith. All you have to do is have a good understanding of what you are repairing and then right tool (like this to look like a pro.

Ingenious product
There are ways to disassemble you M1 carbine bolt without this tool, but you are risking your bolt and your sanity if you do. This makes it sooo much faster and easier. Comes with instruction, or you can check out some YouTube videos.

Broke but worked great
The flat tooth broke but I flipped the arm around and used the forked tooth and it worked just fine

Amazing!
If you own an M1 Carbine and don’t have one of these tools , you’re wrong! Works exactly as advertised. The how to video is excellent and you’ll have your bolt apart, cleaned up and reassembled in no time, simply a must have for any M1 owner.
