My 26-year-old inground concrete storm cellar has a lid with a seam that has failed and has leaked the past 6 or 7 years, so always 6 inches or so of standing water in it. I finally stepped up and bought this Jackson pump from past years of using bilge units for our boat that have worked on D batteries. Can't tell you what a pain those bilge pumps have been, with the short silicone hose and if you forget and leave one in the cellar the humidity and the slowly filling cellar just corrodes the batteries in it and you're done.Also, the bilge pumps don't have the power to make the vertical up and out, or too short of silicone hoses so had to haul the water out in a bucket. After the first use of this Superior Pump, you can bet your butt I wanted to hug the necks of everyone at Superior Pump for manufacturing and designing this awesome pump!!! And so affordable when I think back on what I've spent on D batteries alone.Pump hooked up easily to a standard garden hose and pulled the hose up out of the cellar and across the yard. Plugged the pump into an outdoor extension cord with ground and lowered the pump down into the deepest corner of the water. Plugged it into the GFI outlet we use for our pool pump just to be extra safe and immediately this pump went to work. I couldn't hear it pumping as I was by the pool, but it is a quiet pump, but I immediately saw the water coming out of the hose like a turned on spicket (spigot but I prefer the slang American spelling. ) You will be impressed with the power and force you to get with this small plug in pump! Made quick work of the 6X8 cellar's flooded floor. Has a release jet that I don't remember the actual function but it worked great keeping the mud and debris that comes in through the cellar's ventilation away from the screened suction bottom of the pump. Everything worked beautifully and I just want to say thank you to the men and women at Superior Pump for creating a flawless, quality product that goes straight to work & made in the USA.

It's a pump that works..Know thyself, and use with confidence.
Hard to write about a product that has few features(good for me), works, and does so without fuss. However..The backstory:I am deluged each year by Noachian floods. I need basement pumps. The annual spring flood is a rite here by the Merrimack river. I have only had this pump 1.5 mos. In that time it has seen continuous duty for more than half of that time. This year we had many inches of rain(so far) coupled to the winter snow melt. Flooding has been widespread and well above an average year.The usage:When I get a new pump I always dispense with the garden hose fitting and replace it with a 1.25" hose barb fitting. I do this in anticipation of the spring flood. This allows the pumps to remove vastly larger amounts of water at the cost of needing much more tending as they can run my sump well dry. The primary reason for this review is so that homeowners that use these pumps in a like manner get a long service life from them.The pump may or may not have thermal protection, but the savvy user will never run into thermal overload because the savvy user will not allow the pump to draw in only air for any appreciable length of time. If one has a recessed sump pit/well, then I would strongly advise something like the Superior 92250 which has a tethered level switch. The only reason I am using this pump in my sump pit is that I have so much water entry that my much larger and more expensive 1/3 hp true sump pump with level switch is ofttimes overwhelmed and it switches maniacally due to the fact that it empties the sump well far faster than water can drain into it.Enough with the cautionary tales.The pump has been working with zero issues for ~540 hours. That is a lot of use in a short span. It has kept my basement floor free of standing water. That's more than I should ask of a small, inexpensive pump. I am very pleased, and I am not easily pleased with these devices. I think that anyone that really assesses their needs and buys this pump knowing the pump's potential limitation of no thermal protection will be very well pleased.Shorter review: It's a fine pump that works even when asked to do real workhorse duty at an inexpensive price.. An easy recommendation.

Solid Pump With Respectable Flow
I got this pump to serve a utility function on an as-needed basis and it has performed flawlessly so far. Here are some features I have discovered through use:Pros:* Solid performance: I recently used this pump to clear out water that had accumulated in my backyard due to heavy rains. It worked perfectly and quickly using a 50 ft. garden hose attached to the adapter that comes with the unit. The volume of flow appeared to match what was advertised. This unit can effectively clear a flooded basement, a small pool, clogged bathtub, etc.* Quiet operation: This pump can be used in a sump, but it can also be used to power a water fountain of decent size. It is very quiet during operation, producing a low hum. While I've not yet used the pump to move water to significant elevation, I have been impressed at how much water it moves without sounding like it's making an effort.* Built-in screen: This unit has a built-in screen at the bottom, made of plastic and held on by screws. Anything smaller than the mesh just passes harmlessly through the pump and on out. If the screen becomes clogged, it can be removed and cleaned or the unit can be backflushed to clear any blockage.* Versatile: This pump is rated for continuous-duty, but it also works very well as a back-up pump or for emergencies, sitting on a shelf ready when you need it. I use it for emergencies and projects and it's really handy to have. Like another reviewer, I use an apparatus that makes it easy to just grab it and go when needed: My pump lives in a five gallon plastic paint bucket that has had four, 1.5" holes drilled on the sides (evenly spaced at the very bottom, at 12, 3, 6, and 9 O'Clock), and lined with 1/4" galvanized hardware cloth. The holes in the sides of the bucket let the water in, and the hardware cloth screen out the larger bits of leaves, etc. Keeping the pump in the bucket allows me to transport it easily and lower it by the handle when I need to. The pump also includes a hose adapter that screws onto the 1.5 MIP outlet. Nice!* Decent and tough cord: Mine came with the standard 10' long electrical cord, which is long enough for my purposes. It's stiff, though, made of a material that loses all flexibility when it's cold. In the hot sunshine, it coils up better, but in the cold it can be a pain. (Which is also why I store the pump in the bucket: It makes it easy to stuff the cord in when it doesn't feel like coiling up nicely.* Durable but Light: The housing is made up entirely of thermoplastic. This makes for a pump that is light but also durable. While not as heavy duty as some others, the housing is well-matched to the relatively small motor, which also draws very lightly from house current. I have used this on many occasions and it has always worked without a hiccup. For its size and duty rating, I have been impressed.Cons:* Cord can be stiff, especially at colder temps.Other Thoughts:When using the hose adapter for the outflow, I use Teflon tape; The adapter does not form a tight seal against the outlet pipe and the pressure of the pump is sufficient to create a decent leak or spray of water from this point. Another benefit of using Teflon tape here is that it also makes the adapter easier to take off. Also, this particular model does not have a float - it turns on when you plug it in, so consider that if you are looking for one with a float-actuated switch.This pump is unique in that it can easily be found servicing a fountain (residential or commercial), or doing residential sump pump duty, or serving as a homeowner or contractor's utility pump.While this pump is not as heavy duty as many others, it is a solid and respectable performer. It has proven extremely durable and useful for its size, and the price makes it an outstanding value. Given its flexibility, usefulness, and value, I find it easy to give this a five star rating and can recommend it. I would definitely buy this pump again if I had to do it over as I have found no other that matches the capability, reliability, and durability at this price.

Versatile pump
This pump works great for flushing out a tankless water heater. Instead of buying a kit I bought the higher quality components separately for the same amount of money.If you take the garden hose adapter off you can clamp on a pool sweep hose and it will do an amazing job at draining a pool or flooded area. Awesome pump!

'Hillybilly' hot tub instructions!
I bought this pump to make a 'hillbilly' hot tub in my yard. It worked out great and this little thing really pumps out some water! I spent about $500 total and propane is about $16 and lasts a few weeks. The only other cost is the electricity while running the pump and the cost of the water, (which can be used for a few days without chemicals).You'll need:- Metal stock tank (I used a round 5ft diameter/2 ft deep tank which holds about 300 gallons of water- PowerFit PF31089 Garden Hose Inlet Filter (MUST HAVE)- (2) Camco 22763 TastePURE Drinking Water Hose (1/2"ID x 4') - Lead Free- Eccotemp L5 Portable Tankless Water Heater and Outdoor Shower- (2) Gilmour 7FHS7FH Double Female Swivel Brass Connector, 3/4-Inch by 3/4-Inch- Regular garden hose- Propane tank and batteries for the water heaterTIPS:1. You really need the inlet filter. The water heater has a tiny mesh screen that gets clogged up even with just tiny clothing fibers. The inlet filter saves the day. You'll also need to get two of the short hoses to connect the inlet filter.2. Take the time to securely connect all hoses to/from the water heater. If anything is leaking, the heater stops working.3. I haven't addressed the 15 min heater cut-off. I just set a timer and turn it back on after a few minutes.4. The inlet assembly has been leaking a little, even after I adjusted it, so I just put the inlet filter in the water instead of letting it hang outside. Problem solved.5. You can be in the tub with the pump running. It's built to be submerged and is totally fine.When filling the tub:1. Set up and connect the heater per instructions. Water hose from house goes into the heater, outlet hose goes in the tub, gas hose goes to the propane tank. Follow instructions on how to tighten each hose! If anything is off the heater won't stay lit.2. Turn on the gas, turn the heater power switch on, and turn the water hose on. When the water is running through the heater it'll click and light. HOT water will start flowing from the outlet hose into the tub. Adjust the temp to your needs.It takes about 45 minutes to fill my ~300 gallon tub.When reheating a cold tub:1. Connect the inlet filter to both small hoses referenced above so that it's in the middle.2. Disconnect the house water hose from the heater and connect the hose/filter assembly. Connect the other side of the hose to the pump.3. Put the pump and inlet filter in the tub.4. You should have the pump connected to a short hose, to the inlet filter, to another short hose, to the water hose inlet on the heater. The rest of the connections aren't changed.5. . Turn on the gas, turn the heater power switch on, and plug in the pump. When the water is running through the heater it'll click and light. HOT water will start flowing from the outlet hose into the tub. I leave the heater temp and water pressure on the highest setting when reheating the water.It takes about 1.5 hours to reheat ~300 gallons of water in the tub.Other stuff:1. I often sit in the tub alone after work and I've decided it's pretty big for just one person. I'm going to get an oval 2.5 ft wide/2 ft deep/6 ft long for when I'm relaxing alone and keep this one for when friends come over.2. The water stays fresh for a few days without any chemicals if it's covered. You can add a small amount of chlorine if you wanted to.3. Please use a cover. Squirrels can jump in but they can't get out. I learned the hard way.I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Terrific pump
This Superior pump has been a workhorse. I use it every day. One time I accidentally left it running overnight and it still worked the next day pumping water. It’s easy to clean. I just spray a stream on the bottom to open the holes. On rare occasion, maybe once in several months, I’ll unscrew the bottom, check inside, and clean any fibers off the bottom. If this one ever broke, I’d get another.

Great Pump
Excellent pump—quiet, reliable, and it moved 5,000 gallons out of my pool without any issues. My calcium levels were way too high, and since I’m in Florida, I have to be cautious with plaster pools because removing too much water at once can cause cracking. I placed the pump in the deep end and added fresh water from the shallow end at the same rate. The exchange took about 56 hours. I was also using a 100' 5/8-inch hose, which definitely reduced the flow rate, but the pump still performed well. In the end, I dropped my calcium hardness by more than 100 ppm. Overall, very satisfied.

Survived 10 years of hard work!
This pump is awesome. I bought it in 2015 and we've used it every spring and every heavy rain for several hours per day to remove water from our flooded driveway (sometimes up to 12 inches of water!). Easy to setup and store. The motor finally burnt out after over 10 years of service. I'm not even going to bother researching a replacement, this one has earned our loyalty and I'll be purchasing another.

This did the job easily
We had a big job this spring to remove the water that had accumulated in our pool cover over the winter and spring. It was at least 2 1/2 ft. deep. In order to save the clean water which accumulated from rain and melted snow and recycle it back into the pool, we needed a system to pump it from the cover to the pool. I read many of the reviews from Amazon customers who had the same chore to do. One suggested we put the pump onto something to make sure it didn't suck up the cover as it pumped out the water. So my husband found a plastic "milk" crate, often used to put recyclables out for the garbage truck and used it to house the pump. He fastened a rope to the crate and sunk it down on top of the winter pool cover into the water and ran a hose underneath the cover to recover the water. It worked slick. Over a three day period it took about 8 hours to suck out the water from the winter cover. We are both extremely pleased and have other uses for this pump in the future as well. This summer my husband plans to use it as part of a solar heater for the pool.
