A Used Book In Perfect Condition
This book was sold as a used book by GoodwillBooks in Oregon. It is in brand new condition in addition to being a true encyclopedia of classic quilt patterns. Some patterns I recognize from my grandmother's quilts as well as my mother's. I've studied it several times trying to figure what pattern to use. It has some oldies that have been updated; that's the beauty of this book. I've narrowed down my choices: some variation of Log Cabin; a variation of Bear Paw; and Jewels in My Flower Garden. This book shows a block that has been de-constructed and how to cut and how to sew it back together with beautiful colors and just-right seams. Possibly the most difficult decision to make is which pieces of my terrific fabric collection to use. This book, in addition to being a bargain book, is a treasure of patterns to make as shown, but also to make it your own personal pattern.

Wide range of classic quilt patterns - both pieced and appliqué, simple and advanced
This book of classic patterns shows basic quilt blocks, as well as beautiful quilts made with them. Both appliqué and pieced blocks are included, with full directions and templates. But the best part of all is, they take it a step further and show modern ways to make the blocks more easily and quickly, through rotary cutting and strip piecing. The patterns range from very easy for a beginner - such as Buckeye Beauty, Arkansas Crossroads, Crown of Thorns or Double Irish Chain, to some that require more tricky techniques such as curved seams and inset pieces in Double Wedding Ring, Wandering Star, and Dove at the Window. This is a great addition to your library of quilting books, whether you're looking for a specific pattern, looking for inspiration to choose a pattern, or just wanting to relax and browse through the beautiful pictures. A newcomer to quilting may enjoy it (in the beginning) just to learn the names and styles of traditional patterns.

Very much worth the price!
Pleasantly, surprised by quality of this book. Actual full size patterns for everything you need to make each quilt. Logical, organized, succinct patterns with pictures as visual guide as well as written instructions. Sizes given for twin through king. So many classics to choose from, very much worth the price!

Encyclopedia of Classic Quilt Patterns
If you don't have it..get it. The book is filled with ideas and, best of all, the patterns for the pieces. Not to mention instructions on putting the blocks together. And yardages. In short - if there is a "Classic" quilt you wish to make it's likely to be in here. The main problem is that one keeps finding "Gee, I want to make that one" quilts. I bought this after a friend loaned me hers for a week. I think a beginning quilter would find it especially useful as you can learn the blocks and names from it as well. It also has some less common blocks. For example I'd been looking for a variation on Snail trail/Drunkard's Path. Found it here as "Roads." And remember..you do NOT have to make the quilt the same size as in the book. Go ahead - play with the blocks and create your own variation. Or do a small quilt using only a few blocks to try something new.

Great book, beautiful patterns
I am loving this book!! Even though the methods depicted in this book are old, they can easily be modified for today’s methods! These patterns are beautiful, but there are alot of appliqué patterns. I would have preferred less of them.

I love this book
I love this book. I refer to it often when I am designing a quilt. The patterns include a lot of beautiful old patterns, and this is one of my favourite quilting books. If you buy it, put your name in it as you don't want to lose it!

The only patchwork book you need!!
I have lots of quilt books but unfortunately very few have much substance/ value for money. This is the most comprehensive book i have ever seen on patchwork/quilting. There are hundreds of beautiful traditional quilts and all give instructions and termplates on how to make them. I have made 3 quilts from it, and am currently trying to get this book back from my mother who also loves it (and is on her 2nd quilt!) - i have another on order for her and then i'll finally get it back!!
