I got a XL because I like them in the larger size. If I wanted it to fit a little more snug I could get a large and it would fit. I would definitely gift it. There's one thing that bugs me just a little bit. They seemed to cut corners on the zipper. It's not the best quality but you get what you pay for. I got it because I needed to retire my previous hoodie, and I wanted something I could make my cold weather jacket for temps between 20-45 degrees F. I shopped carefully to find one with sherpa lining in the sleeves--apparently most of these hoodies lack sherpa lining in the sleeves.Fit-wise, I will join others in cautioning about the sizing. I marked that this fit 'as expected,' but I will add caveats.I like my shirts and jackets pretty roomy. A large would normally be my size, but I typically get XL because I have long arms and I like the wristbands to rest just beyond my wrist. This hoodie gives me 'exact' arm length, meaning there's not much extra length--not a criticism, but I'll just be stretching the arms after washings to give me that extra bit I like.I'll also echo what others have said about the sherpa lining in the arms. In the upper part of the arms, it's fine, but it tapers a bit near the wrists, so wearing this with heavy shirts underneath will make the wrists feel restricted. I can probably stretch that out a bit to give a little extra room.So bottom line is it fits well, but I wish it had a little more width near the wrists.
