Packed full with assorted items, clothes and bedding they weighed 20 - 30 lbs, far less than the 50 lbs maximum they will hold. They open with zippers around the top which proved to be a lifesaver as we didn’t expect to have so many small items to pack. Unlike other bags that open down the middle and sides, these top loading bags contained everything neatly which made packing them a breeze. I recommend you double bag everything because your student will need all the bags when they move out or fly home. Plus you never know how many bags you will need till the end, we had calculated five at first and ended up with seven the night before! So buy more than what you think you’ll need and return the extras, it sure beat trying to find boxes or bags last minute. Seven bags plus several boxes fit perfectly in a midsize SUV with the second and third rows down. The car has 92 cubic feet of cargo space as a reference. A: Unknown but heavy duty “weave” that does not split or tear.

**Q: Are these mildew resistant?**
A: I am not sure if they’re mildew resistant. The outer material feels water resistant. We packed them inside our house and used them to transport our sons belongings to college.

**Q: Is this canvas?**
A: No it is not canvas. It is a heavy duty plastic material much like what is used in the reusable grocery bags.

**Q: Are these bags water proof?**
A: The bags are somewhat waterproof since they are plastic fabric. If you spilt a little water on them they would keep water out. If it was a lot of water it keep getting in.
