Plustek Photo Scanner ePhoto Z300, Scans 4x6 inch Photos in 2 Seconds, Auto crop and deskew with CCD Sensor, Supports Mac and PC

I had a BIG project to do and shopped around a bunch before selecting the Plustek - it was a good decision. Back in the 70s, 80s, 90s before digital photography I collected postcards for travel souvenirs. I was careful about storing them in Snapware type containers, but they sat in the basement and every time I moved I remembered it as a "to-do" project as they were all but useless in storage - didn't know what, how many, where and could not share with anyone either. I had similar collections of photographs which became scanning projects - thousands of disorganized, varied size, varied quality of both family and travel. I eventually handled these via ScanMyPhotos service, although the by far hardest part is organizing what you have. Problem - postcards are protected by COPYWRITE, doesn't matter that you paid money to own them 40 years ago, the rights to the image are NOT yours and most (not all) scan services will turn you down. Those who will look the other way may charge 50 cents a side and postcards have the ID information on the back - so I was facing nearly 5,000 scans and $2,500. I have a flat bed scanner with my HP Envy 5660 printer/scanner/copier - would take forever, not to mention all the editing crap you'd have to go through. BTW - my collection is all shapes, sizes and thicknesses. Some of the postcards are postcard books, some pamphlet sets which I cut to sort, some 3.5x5 others 8x10. The travel brochures include many national park offerings of varied size. Plus I have concert program booklets with many pages and a stapled center. Making Amazon (and other) comparisons it looked like the Plustek was best for my needs over the, much more expensive options like Epson FastFoto with an auto feeder for nearly $600 and I purchased accordingly. Good choice - it really worked like a charm. All 4,774 images of various shape, size and thickness worked EASILY - even with frayed edges. The unit is really SIMPLE. You connect to your computer, download the latest software update (important) turn it on, set a folder name and a file name string and go. Extremely fast and durable. It literally feeds boom, boom, boom. Every 50 images you need transfer your Plustek folder to your computer drive then you get space for the next 50. I only used 300 dpi, but it was lightning quick. It does offer 600 dpi and reviews say it is slower, as you might expect. The rollers worked like a dream. Just hold your postcard above and the rollers grab and feed remarkably well, even doing concert programs several pages thick with stapled mid-section. No jams and all the images align nicely on the Plustek software. You do have image control tools like rotation and the like, but it worked so well I rarely needed them. It does have an 8 1/2 inch width limitation with clearly marked feeder lines on the intake. I tried to push the limits a few times and the content would tip sideways and make a jam sound. No biggie, open the scanner guard, rearrange and try again. You get a blurred image on the software which you just send to trash - highly reliable putting up with all the "shouldn't try" things that I did. Fast, simple, affordable and versatile. I could not have done this project without it. Highly recommend.

This Christmas I embarked on an insane project: digitize all of my family's physical photos from my entire life. We had a flood when I was a teenager that destroyed a lot of them, and I never wanted to lose what we had again, so I started the hunt for a scanner that would let me easily run through the thousands of photos in my parents' house. Enter the Plustek. Most photo scanners are going to give you a better quality scan, but honestly this is just for my family to know we have the pictures somewhere we can go through them easily. I needed something low-cost with a decent scan speed. I also wanted a scanner where I could feed the pictures through it rather than lay them down so I could get through them faster. This scanner had a couple of recommendations scattered across the internet, so I bought it. Reader, I got through about two thousand pictures in four days. We got out all the boxes, all the photo albums, all the binders and I just sat and went through them for a few hours each day. The app lets you get to I believe fifty photos before you have to clear out, so I would scan the fifty, save them to my computer, upload them to my Google drive, clear the app, and start again. It was honestly such an easy process. The scanner set up with ease and had no technical problems so I have no idea what their customer support was like since I never needed them. Everything worked the way it needed to. 10/10 would recommend, will be using for a very long time. Next project: my grandparents' wedding albums.

My purpose in purchasing the scanner is to scan a few thousand photos taken for about 35 years beginning in 1965. Around 2000, I obtained final images in digital form as well as hard copy so those photos don't need to be scanned. When I first started scanning photos, I used the scanner that I normally use, which is intended for paper scanning, and has an automatic feed for paper. But for that scanner, the photos had to be inserted one at a time, with many keystrokes in between to get the scanner to scan those photos. Additionally, as each scan completed, fairly often some human intervention was required to handle the cropping from the full scan bed to the actual photo. The scanner was fairly successful in finding the edge of the photo, but not always and asked for help. The Plustek scanner is designed specifically for conversion of many photos into digital files. I thought that the hand feeding of the photos would be a problem, but it is not. To scan, you place the photo in the reader, and the scan begins. No keystrokes are required. When the photo passes completely through the scanner, the scanner automatically crops the result to the actual photo dimensions. The scanner is ready immediately for the next photo. So to scan a bunch of photos, you place one after another into the scanner without stopping for keystrokes. I found that I processed around two hundred photos per hour. When I used the scanner intended for paper copies, the scanning took from, 5 to 10 times longer than with the Plustek. The result is that I can finish my project in a few days, instead for spending a full month doing nothing but scanning photos. This is why I have give the Plustek scanner a 5-star rating. There is room for improvement in the user interface, but the deficiencies are not consequential. For example, to save a bunch of images just read in, the command to type is Control S, which takes you to a default folder for storage. To save in a different folder, it is possible to browse to find it. However, the browsing keystrokes are not the same as those in the Windows user interface. so that at first it is awkward trying to navigate to a different directory. Also, when I encountered an error condition like filling the local memory with freshly scanned images, the user interface opened a new small window that was hidden from view by other windows. The small window told what the problem was, and asked the user for some keystrokes; The scanner froze awaiting a reply, but I did not immediately see that there was an error window open asking for my response. Once I saw that I was being queried, everything was resolved quickly. Because the user interface issues are very minor, they do not have a big impact on the usability of the product. With experience, those issues go away.

I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was VERY easy to set up. It’s lightweight. I scanned in 306 photos. Quickly I might add. Very happy with the purchase. My intent was only using it for photos. However I needed to scan a document today and it worked great! I cannot express just how easy it is to use this scanner. I didn’t try multiple things at a time but I was able to just go through and scan the photos one by one. It scans fast! Very happy with the purchase. Well worth it so far! It is quiet. My only complaint is that when scanning in a document there was nothing to hold the paper up in place. So I had to hold it..but it worked fast.

I was using a flatbed scanner until I got tired of lifting the lid, putting another document or picture in and waiting minutes for the scanner to scan the image. This thing is fast, it is accurate, and has a smaller footprint. I worked for a scanning company that scanned documents and photos for companies and comparing it to the large high speed scanners we used, for personal use, this scanner works. It crops and deskews as you would expect. The software for the scanner is very adequate and saves images in multiple formats. For the normal person needing to scan documents and photos, this is a go to scanner for the price. Thank you Plustek for a great product.

Like many others, I have multiple boxes of old photos, and I've started on the project of converting them to digital images. I put a lot of time into researching photo scanners, and the ones I was interested in were pretty pricey. Timewise, this project is out of the question using the flatbed scanner available in my printer. After a lot of research, I decided on this Plustek scanner. I've had it for about 7 or 8 months now, and I love it. You can scan up to 50 photos at a time with no buttons or adjustments - just feed the photos in one at a time. At 300dpi, the process is fast. The images drop into Plustec's software, and you have the ability to do some editing and color adjustment. I've found that this software works well for me, is easy to use, and is all I need. I just want to get all these photos scanned in and organized and I'm not terribly interested in any serious editing at this point. I'm especially happy with the color enhancement that's available for those old color photos from decades past that are fading or turning yellow - it really gives those photos new life, just by clicking on a button or two. I have other photo editing software on my laptop, and I'll worry about serious editing later, if I even decide to go that far. After I've made any quick color adjustments, I just move the photos onto my hard drive, where I can organize them., and save them on an external hard drive. The Plustek scanner does a great job and has a very attractive price tag. The user manual is detailed and very helpful. I've heard good things about the customer service, but I haven't needed to use it. There's also a case available for it here on Amazon, and I keep it in the case on my desk to eliminate dust. The scanner doesn't take up much room on the desk, so I keep it there to work on my scanning project when I have a little extra time. I recommend this scanner for anybody who's looking to tackle a photo archiving project without breaking the bank.

SIZE It's a bit bigger than it looked in the pictures. SPEED It scans fast. I scanned 2 full shoe boxes of photos in 2 days, only for a couple of hours a day, 1200 photos. CONNECTION I had an issue connecting it: it came with a USB cable but my Macbook only has USBC. It also came with a little converter USB to USBC - but it wasn't connecting. Then I used my own usb HUB converter and it immediately connected. So little converter it came with did not work with my macbook so keep that in mind if you have issues connecting. (see my photo) QUALITY: I scanned everything at 300 and am happy with the results. I had some old photos that had folds on them and those for some reason didn't always scan well. The scanner picked up the fold much more than I could see with my own eye. For those few photos I just took a photo of it with my phone instead. I used their editing on a couple of faded black and white photos to pump exposure / white balance. I am also using it to scan old artwork in case we ever lose it or it gets destroyed in a fire / flood with all the disasters happening on the daily now a days. SOFTWARE: software was easy to download for mac and windows (we used both) and it was easy to use. I saved everything mostly in 1 folder and will later sort all the images. They all had a default file name of the date you scanned: 2025-01-20-12-03-0013 CONS: My main con is that I have a bunch of photos that have writing on the back, in another language which I cannot read. So I tried to scan both sides....some came out fully white so I couldn't scan it. And even those that did scan, I have no way to attach them to the original photo. And 1200 photos I'll never remember which photo that writing belongs to. Would love a feature for photos with writing...where it may add FRONT and BACK to the photo ? or even combine the 2 into 1 photo I am ok with that. so it would have a 2 part scan SIDE 1 SIDE 2 and then you choose whether it combines into 1 photo or if it names it with FRONT AND BACK. This is the only reason I took off a star but I'd still give it 4.9. This feature I think could be added later on if anyone reads this. Don't forget to back up all your photos to a cloud / share it with family so you all have a copy / ways to get to it. Our photos and memories are irreplaceable. I will put it on a google drive and share with family so they can have a copy. It feels amazing to finally have 30+ year old photos scanned!!! and no longer have to dig through boxes to find a photo.

I really thought I would need an auto-feeder scanner that I could just drop a stack in and walk away. The prices started towards this. I'm so glad I got this one. It's much better to have control over the pictures. Yeah it might take longer but if something goes wrong I'm right there to correct it. And only one picture is at risk, not several. I'm very happy with the 600dpi scans. Haven't tried the 300. It's fast and very easy to operate. The software isn't exactly self explanatory at first so it's necessary to use their tutorial info. I learned just by playing with it and got it figured out. The pictures are stored in the software memory and you have to choose to upload to your hard drive. This allows you to alter the photos inside the app. I like the 50 photo limit because you don't get overwhelmed with the retouching process, should you use the software (which I do extensively). Also if you were to lose power or something were to happen to the scanner you don't have to rescan more than 50 photos. I've scanned almost a thousand pictures in 5 days. One photo the subjects dark hair and the background behind subjects head were almost black, the scanner thought the photo stopped at the top of the forehead and no matter how I fed the photo through it would not scan the whole photo. One photo that was trimmed by hand so was an unusual size would scan at an angle for some reason. So 2 out of a thousand isn't bad at all. I found that of your scan has a thin line through it then you must open the cover and clean the lense. I'm very happy with plustek ephoto scanner and for $200 it's a life saver.

Ich hatte ca.1500 Papier Fotos, Farbe und s/w und wollte mich von der Last befreien. Ich habe mich informiert und mich für den plustek ePhoto entschieden und war bereits beim ersten gescannten Foto sofort begeistert!!! Er scannt schnell: Er benötigt lediglich 20 Sekunden bei 600 dpi vom einführen des Fotos bis zum Abschalten des Scanns. Bei 300 dpi benötigt er sogar nur 5 Sekunden. Er scannt stets gerade: Er rückt die Fotos automatisch gerade, auch wenn man diese schräg ansetzt. Super Software: Die mitgelieferte Software ist für die normale Bearbeitung voll ausreichend! Selbst vergilbte Fotos sind mit einem oder manchmal zwei Klicken wieder wie neu! Dabei ist die Software sehr übersichtlich aufgebaut und zu bedienen. Wer dann noch mehr möchte kann ein Bildbearbeitungsprogram verknüpfen. Farben: Die Farben entsprechen zu 95% den Farben des Fotos! Keine Pixel, keine Streifen! Mir gefällt der Scanner wegen seiner Scanqualität, der einfachen Bedienung und Geschwindigkeit. Die Fotos fallen nach dem Scan einfach unten heraus, ich habe ihn am Rand des Schreibtisches aufgestellt und auf den Boden einen Karton gestellt, fertig. Es macht wirklich Spass und für 200€ war es die Sache wirklich wert! Und nun werde ich ihn guten Gewissens an Freunde weiter verkaufen, die ebenfalls ihre Fotos digitalisieren möchten. Im very happy with this. I bought it some time ago to scan through my boxes and boxes of photos - a long, slow task made much, much easier with this very efficient scanner.

Dovendo scannerizzare foto di famiglia in grande quantità erano anni che cercavo qualcosa di più veloce rispetto ad uno scanner piano dove devi mettere la foto, lanciare la scannerizzazione, alzare coperchio, togliere la foto ed inserirne un'altra etc etc........capite bene che scannerizzare così 1500 foto viene male!!! Mi sono imbattuto in questo scanner di un marchio Plustek che non è certo l'ultimo arrivato e di cui avevo già uno scanner per negativi e diapositive che funzionava molto bene. Appena l'ho visto ho subito fatto ricerche sul sito per capire le sue caratteristiche e per quello che dovevo fare io (scannerizzare 1500/2000 foto a 300 dpi) era perfetto. L'ho quindi acquistato e si è rivelato molto meglio di quello che pensavo....oltre ogni aspettativa. La scannerizzazione a 300 dpi è velocissima e in una serrimana ho già scannerizzato 800 foto. Oltre a questa velocità mi ha piacevolmente stupito anche il software di cattura perché consente molte funzioni di miglioramento della foto. Proprio quello che cercavo. È tutte queste funzionalità sono sempre molto intuitive e automatiche. Cercavo proprio questo. Non sto dicendo che sia lo scanner migliore del mondo ma è un ottimo mix tra qualità e velocità. Non volevo perdere mezz'ora a foto per correggerla.......volevo proprio qualcosa che sistemasse la foto al volo rendendola più che discreta. Pensate a foto del 1920 o 1930 o anche foto di solo 40 anni fa tutte ingiallite e virare. Perdere 30 minuti a foto........avrei finito fra 20 anni!!!! Con questo attrezzo in una sola settimana come dicevo ne ho fatte 800 e tutte corrette al volo e con ottimi risultati. Ho provato anche la scannerizzazione a 600 dpi giusto per provarla e funziona sicuramente bene ma a 600 la scannerizzazione diventa molto più lenta....cosa peraltro dichiarata anche nelle specifiche. Esegue scannerizzazione solo a 300 e 600 dpi e nella maggior parte delle volte è più che sufficiente. In soldoni un grandissimo strumento che mi sta salvando da un lavoro infinito. Unica nota negativa: avrei voluto che applicasse in automatico i miglioramenti software a tutte le foto e invece sono costretto a selezionare una alla volta ad applicargli le correzioni. Poco male......è una operazione molto veloce. Per me quindi consigliatissimo. Roberto.

When I started to look for a photo scanner I was going to spend £400 plus on a multi-feed scanner, I'm glad I didn't. As it's very unlikely the very small photos from 40 - 90 years old would have been able to go in the auto feeder. That said this is a great piece of kit and works very well. you have to feed each photo but take's in the photo once the photo reaches a certain point and scans very quickly. I have scanned over 1500 photos over about 10 hours and this includes filing them etc. far quicker than an all-in-one lifting and placing each one. I already have four other scanners 2No A4 BW both sheetfed, 1no A4 single sheet colour and 1no A3/A4 multi feed/single sheet colour. Three are Brother, one HP. All are very good but none does this job as well as the Plustek Some reviews complain about the software but it does what it says on the tin its simple to use and once you get into the rhythm very easy. There is a limit of 50 photo for each batch but all you have to do is save this batch in a location of your choice and start again you can scan 1 or fifty it doesn't matter and save each time. The quality is fine and when you consider the age of some of the photos you are likely to scan and the cameras our ancestors used. This scanner brings out a good image sometimes better than the original. I am very pleased with it. One note, this scanner does not scan negatives for that you would need a Plustek OpticFilm 8200i SE which is about £300. It's been very good value for money especially when you consider the competition.
