Sooo much INK!! I literally had to laugh!
Coming from a fussy cartridge printer that was almost never happy with it's ink levels; always demanding new cartridges and refusing to print black and white because I was "low on Cyan". So I open the box and I'm immediately met with what I can only describe as LAUGHABLE amounts of ink! And it's ALL MINE meaning I'm not going to be throwing half of it away in the form of purportedly "empty(tm)" cartridges. Boy oh Boy! Well, setup went fine even though I have odd preferences (changing names, wired only, manual IP, etc...). It was as flexible as I needed it to be. The control panel isn't touch screen so it's a bit fussy for this amount of input but I knew that going in. Not much of an issue day-to-day. Print quality seems fine; I'm not an artist or photographer. I love that the paper tray holds 250 sheets. Printing and scanning working fine from our Macs and airprint working fine from mobile devices without needing any downloads. By which I mean to say in my opinion don't install the Epson software if it's not needed -- leave well enough alone. Glad that it doesn't use heated printheads (it was the heat that killed our old Canon). My only complaint so far is the power button which "breathes" (brightens and dims) continuously when on standby and the brightness cannot be adjusted. Well a bit of blue tape will take care of that I guess. Happy printing!

What happened to plug and play? Not this machine.
Here's the good: I've used one of these for years and was very happy with it -- until a massive power surge (courtesy of my electric company) fritzed out the wireless capabilities. Epson's ink tank design is a massive step up in cost and convenience (less storage space, easier to refill) compared to traditional inkjet cartridges. The savings are tangible. The bad: it took me 2.5 hours to install. I had issues with bad drivers and a firmware update that would crash. I placed two support calls to Epson -- one of which was worthwhile (unfortunately it was the second one). I've been using printers since the Xerox 630 Diablos in the mid 80's; this the most cumbersome installation procedure I have ever used. What should take a few minutes required support calls, poring over largely useless documentation (either not simple enough, or too simple), and countless false starts. Once it works, it works flawlessly. (But I don't remember my first machine being this hard to install.) I'd give it 2-3 stars if it not for my previous positive experience.

SLOWEST & WORST - Page Feed NEVER Worked
I bought this because in the past Epson provided phenomenal customer support and my last Epson lasted for many years without problem (although the way it died was annoying: one day it reported it could not read an ink cartridge, without specifying which cartridge - so I replaced each in order of 1st the cartridge I'd just replaced, then by low level... When all were replaced (costing me the whole box of all colors), it still wouldn't "read" an ink cartridge). I bought this because of the idea of the lower ink cost, bought this one on Amazon because our local (remote town) Walmart had no Epson printer with the automatic page feeder that I wanted for scanning. Set up was a pain with their automated set up not being user friendly. Unfortunately, the page feed did not work for more than 1 page when I tested it, but it was the middle of my business's busy season and I forgot to follow up and the warranty is quite short. Months later, I tried the feed again and now it won't even run 1 page, but keeps reporting "paper jam" when there is no paper to be found since it's never been used beyond that 1st test when the paper remained intact. I just wasted over 2 hrs, having to download Epson onto my computer again to make the scan work. SLOWEST PRINTER EVER EXPERIENCED. SCANNING IS EVEN SLOWER, especially when having to lay each page on the bed, then cover (otherwise you get dark edges on the saved scan image), then lift cover to start over with 2nd page - while having a 50 pg document to scan. I opted to instead eat up memory on my phone to more quickly use TurboScan app. EPSON HAS BECOME A SOURCE OF INSANITY AND WASTE OF MONEY & PRECIOUS TIME.

Homeschool
I have used this printer for a little over a year. The ink last a really long time and we print all the time for homeschooling. It’s also super easy to scan things back to the computer. My kids are able to confidently print things. I haven’t dealt with paper jams. I do clean the print heads every so often but it’s easy and the screen will give step by step instructions.

Wow - super impressed
After 5 years, my HP home printer died. It had a good run, so I tried the similar level of HP. What a piece of junk that was! The HP didn’t work right from the get go and all the parts were so cheaply made. I returned that and decided to spend a little more to get the Epson ET-3850 after reading the reviews. I liked the idea of not having to pay a gazillion dollars every time you turn around on ink. The HP I had purchased because I liked the instant ink program I was on. It had its pros/cons.. Yes, I paid more for this printer, (I think it was $399) but it has a lot of ink that will last me for a while vs. paying a monthly instant ink membership of 5.99 - 9.99 a month. The Et-3850 was SOOOOO easy to set up. Super intuitive app that worked so easily with the printer. I set it up using my tablet and eventually added the printer to my husband’s phone, his tablet, and my phone. All easy peasy. I’m very impressed with the quality of the printer itself. The hardware of it seems well made; far better than the junk I got with the HP. The HP drawers were so rickety and always said they were open… (It was brand new and no, it wasn’t opened). I love the smaller footprint of it so it doesn’t take up valuable desk space. It allows me space to use my label printer too. I wanted one with the top multiple paper feeder; so again the ET-3850 fit the bill. I use that rarely to scan multiple pages (perhaps to a legal or financial professional) so I did still want that vs. raising and lowering the platten multiple times to copy each page. So far, I’m really impressed. I’m hoping this printer serves me well for at least another five years. I DO highly recommend it.

Thoughts after a year of use
I've had this printer for about a year now. At first, this printer was great but now it can't seem to print anything from the magenta range. I've cleaned the heads, I've done power cleaning and I am using Epson branded ink. Also interesting, when printing black and white, I get black text as expected. When I print in color, my black text comes out green. For what it's worth, I did move after I purchased this printer, so I may have damaged it in the move. Its too bad that it's not working anymore, as the printer felt pretty good out of the box. Its a decent size, it's relatively quiet, doesn't weigh all that much and did a good job both with print and copy. I am also happy with the wireless capabilities. All in all, its a good printer, it's just a bummer that a 350 dollar (at the time I purchased it) seems to have failed after a year. I also don't do a lot of printing... so its even more baffling. I am a big fan of the ecotank system. Not having to mess with cartridges has been a blessing.
