Cheap way to get a big sound
Great mouthpiece for the money. Want to upgrade from your beginner/student 4c or 5c and get a bigger, louder, brighter sound for $40. Get this

Great inexpensive mouthpiece for blues/rock settings
This is a great mouthpiece for blues or rock band settings. I play mine routinely in those bands and have no complaints. Tone is very bright. As others have mentioned, it's pretty easy to reach altissimo notes with the Metalite. For the price it's worth picking one up just to hear what playing a "bright" mouthpiece is like. If you find the tone too simplistic, you haven't lost your shirt. And yes, it is loud. Looking at some of the other reviews, this mouthpiece is inappropriate for concert band or even jazz ensembles because it is so bright it will not blend with the rest of the group.

Big sound, but not sure of the clarity
I love that I get a nice big metallic sound- almost too big of a sound because my ears needed a break after a bit. It definitely meets my expectations. What I don't like is the effect on the sharpness of the sound. Also, it may be louder because I have to blow harder to get a sound. It feels sort of buzzed after a while of playing. I chock it up to being a beginner, or maybe it's due to my stamina or my embouchure. But the yamaha 5C is definitely more fun to play on. I would recommend it if you want a metallic sound for fun at a cheap price. But as a sole mouthpiece, I wouldn't depend on just this.

Great Mouthpiece Very Good sound, But
Great Mouthpiece Very Good sound, But Every Rico Mpc I have bought I had to flat sand the table of the mouthpiece on a glass table with 600grit and finishing with 1000 grit for a very flat table section on the mpc. I lightly drag the MPC across the 600 grit sandpaper a couple times, Then I inspect the mpc's Table area, first to see where the low spots are and how deep they are, by doing a couple of Drags on the 600 grit this will show where the Low spots are, I drag the mpc another 4 inches or so across the 600 grit then inspect the table on the mpc again for flatness and low spots once the dimples/ low spots are pretty much gone I then change to 1000 grit and do same thing drag another 4inch length with light pressure on the mouthpiece, once that looks good I then clean up the side rails a LITTLE bit with the 1000 grit, you dont want to remove to much Light pressure , it transforms these Inexpensive Ricos into something better than you would expect, their molding process is imprecise, leaving low spots/leaks, so the table area of the mpc is Not very flat and needs to be finished off for them to be impressive. How do they sound before I Flat sand the Mpc table, they sound ok, some better than others their Molding process can produce a uneven Table section on the mpc, getting the table FLAT with No unevenness greatly improves the quality of sound from all my Rico Mouthpieces that I play with. They are Impressive after words.

This Mouthpiece Screams! I Love It!!
This mouthpiece arrived today and I quickly took it for a test drive and ended up playing for about an hour. I have to say this MP screams! Altissimo just comes out so much easier than some of my other mouthpieces. It’s just so easy to control. From soft and quiet to screaming banshee, this completely impressed me. It’s not quite as loud as a Dukoff, but it’s still pretty loud. Loud enough to compete with brass. And just very easy for me to control. Note bending, altissimo, low notes come out with fullness... I’m blown away! We need more affordable options as sax players. I’ve spent way too much on other mouthpieces in years past. Hopefully the industry will begin to provide us with great sounding options like this that aren’t so expensive. Anyway, don’t hesitate to buy this. It’s a super fun and rewarding mouthpiece. And ultimately, any MP that keeps you wanting to play with anticipation and excitement is a wonderful thing.

I can honestly say I get a much better tone out of the soprano version than I do ...
This was a decent mouthpiece considering the price. I own it for soprano as well in size M7. I can honestly say I get a much better tone out of the soprano version than I do on the alto version of this mouthpiece. Though the sound is acceptable, it sounds very plastic which sticks out much more on alto/tenor than it does on soprano. It is also larger in the mouth (not as comfortable to play.) Though the tone quality produced is not as good, you can really hit altissimo notes like crazy with it. Being around 25 dollars this is an excellent starter choice for someone beginning to play a jazz mouthpiece. They are very, very different than classical mouthpieces. This gives someone the ability to try one out inexpensively and get the hang of it before purchasing a much more expensive one.

Low D wouldn't play well on mine
I really like the loudness and brightness of this mouthpiece (D7), but sadly, the low D note would never play true. I tried it on my horn and also my Dad's Yanagisawa, and both horns experienced the same issue with this mp. I may take a file to it and see if I can get any improvement, but likely not, since I don't really know what I'm doing :) I suppose I could also exchange it and see if it's just the one I got. In any case, so close to the sound I wanted for a rock/R&B band, but I guess I'll stick with my darker Rousseau jazz mp for now.

The Only Professional Grade Saxophone Mouthpiece that you will ever need at a very reasonable price.. Try One!
I use the Rico Metalite M7 Alto and Tenor Sax mouthpieces exclusively. At age 67, my teeth and chops are now more delicate, and I am no longer able to use the metal mouthpieces which I used for many years, and cost me hundreds of dollars. I discovered these mouthpieces five years ago when they were re-introduced, and I use with Runyon MP patches, and Rovner ligatures. They are light, loud and have a bright, but rich tone. The Metalite was designed by Arnold Brillhart with a three step baffle. I am able to achieve altissimo notes above F#, G, G# , A, A# and above, that I was never able to with my older metal pieces, with roll over baffles. I recently returned a newer popular $200 MP advertised for easy altissimo, which did not work for me. The Rico Metalite M7 mouthpieces have me spoiled. They are also very reed friendly and not expensive. .
