Merry Pet Cat Washroom/Night Stand Pet House, Espresso - MPS007

I love this. It is a beautiful piece of furniture. The color is darker than the picture, but lovely. It is more of a dark deep cherry or mahogany color. It is not a flat color, it has grains in it if you look closely. From far away though, it is a deep chocolate, almost black. It definitely is NOT the color in the picture. Putting this together was tricky, and I never have trouble assembling items. I will try to walk you through it. Make sure you keep the instructions that come with it and read them along with what I am writing. My instructions were stapled incorrectly and it took me a little while to figure out that step one was on page 3...so read very carefully. Step 1 First you can attach the towel rod to either the right or left. I chose not to, because mine is sitting in my bedroom. If you want the rod on the right (as you are facing the product, then attach it to panel B. If you want the rod on the left, then attach it to panel A. The side with the paneling in the wood is the outside. It is easy to attach. Put the rod through the wood, (paneling side out), then put on a washer and then use the nuts. Now to put the box together. Step 2 Attach locking bolts into the two outside holes on the inside of panel B at the end that has the curve to it. The inside is the side without the paneling. Screw them in using your hands and then use a Philips screwdriver to screw them in. Then put the wooden dowel in the hole in the middle. Then take panel D and turn it so the side with the little groove in it lines up next to the same groove in panel B. (D is the bottom panel, and the part that hangs down is the front...it is easiest to line them up so the grooves will be next to each other) The legs of B stick up in the air (the aren't really legs, they are the top section of B and that really confused me for a bit). You attach the two pieces by sliding D onto the two locking bolts and the dowel. (The dowel doesn't fit in tightly, so be careful not to let it fall out). Once you have the two pieces together, take the SMALL cams and then twist them so the part of the locking bolt that sticks out, fits into the notch in the cam. BE CAREFUL TO USE THE RIGHT CAM! I didn't realize until I had to undo the whole thing, that there were different size cams. Turn the cam until you find the point where it feels like it sits in over the bolt. Once the cam is in, turn it gently with your screwdriver until it is tight. It doesn't take many rotations until it is tight. I think, one to one and a half rotations. Don't over tighten. Tightening too much doesn't make it stronger. You aren't screwing something in, you are twisting the cam so it covers the locking bolt. You do have to get it in snugly, but be gentle. Then put the little brown screw covers into the cams. You don't have to, the screws are only seen from the inside, up to you. Step 3 The instructions then say to take panel G and slide it in the groove. It won't stay in there very well, don't worry, panel A will hold it in better. Step 4 Put the locking pins and the dowels into panel A the same way as you did to B. Attach A to panel D the same way you did with B. The section with the little groove will be lined up with the grooves on panel D. Before you put in the cams (Use the small cams!) and snug it all down, adjust it so you have panel G in the groove properly. It is a little tricky to get it in there, as it keeps trying to jump out. I did it myself, but another pair of hands would have made it easier. You certainly don't need anyone else to help if you don't have a person handy. Part G is the back of the unit, and the side with the sticker on it is the inside. Look at the instructions to see how it all slides together. Put the screw (cam) covers into the cams if you want, again, this is the inside and you won't see those screws. Step 5 was on the back of page two...so again, read carefully. Attach the knob to the outside of Panel E. The outside is the side with the paneling. Step 6 insert 4 locking bolts into part C. Do NOT put the dowels in part C. If you do, when you try to put part C down, they will fall out and you will have to crawl under the couch to find them. Instead, put the dowels in the top of parts A and B. Then, put panel C down over the dowels and lining up the 4 locking bolts into the holes. The notches are there so the C fits around the little legs. (I thought this was all going to be the bottom of the thing, but actually it is the top of the unit). The magnet on part C is the front. After you have part C in place, and BEFORE you put in the cams, attach the door, part E. It is easy, you just have to line up the little pegs in the holes, but if you snug down part C, you can't get the door in. Make sure the magnet on part C lines up with the metal piece on part E. Step 7 insert the SMALL cams and snug them down. This time it is a little harder because you have to reach into the box and do it by feel. But, you have down a bunch of these cams by now and you are a pro! It won't be that hard. Just make sure you twist them right so they can be screwed down. Up to you about those pesky brown cam screw covers. Step 8. (Almost done and it is easier from here.) Put the locking bolts into panel F. This is the top of the unit. The instructions don't say, but there are three sides that have a little lip on part F and one side that is flat. I chose to put the flat side in the back, but it would work either way. If you don't put the flat side in the back, the unit will stick out a little from the wall. Ok...got those locking bolts in place...now put F into the little legs that stick up. NOW, it is time to use the BIG cams. If you got this far, you should have 2 small cams and 5 large cams left. (The 2 small cams are extras and there is an extra large cam too.) Put the large cams into the legs, turn, and tighten. NOW, you want to be sure to use those little brown cam, screw cover things. These holes ARE visible. Step 9. This unit is supplied with 4 dark brown wood plugs that you can put in the holes for the towel rod that you didn't use. On my unit, those plugs fell out every time I tried to put them in. I decided not to use them at all. If you have the same trouble, try using a little glue and I am sure they will stay in. Just remember if you do that, you might have a hard time getting them out, or you might damage the wood, if you later decide to put the towel rod in those holes. Voila!! You are finished. I hope that helps the next person put this thing together a little easier than it was for me. I didn't realize about the different sizes of the cams until I had to take it apart to fix it. And good luck getting the wrong cams out of those holes after you put them in! It took a nail file, gravity, and a lot of frustration to get them out. As everyone has already stated, make sure you get a small litter box. Check the dimensions of this unit and find one that fits. I had what I thought was a small litter box and it is too big. Silly me. Should have measured. I wish I had looked for one on Amazon to order at the same time so I wouldn't be sitting here with a lovely finished piece but no way to use it yet. Ah well, I can wait until tomorrow. The dimensions of the inside are 18 3/4" x 16 1/4". Even though the thing was a little tricky to put together, I gave it 5 stars because it looks lovely. The opening to the unit is 7" x 8". Little kitties will fit in easily. I am not sure about the mega cats. (If you know what I mean.) If you have a super duper sized feline, I would suggest getting a cardboard box first and cut the opening that size and see if your kitty will fit.

I am not handy by any means. Just looking at instruction manuals sends my head spinning so I always let my husband handle any assembly project. I was however, able to put this together! It took me about half an hour from checking that all parts were included in the box to the finished assembled product. My husband was impressed and surprised that I didn't just leave all the parts everywhere for him to deal with. So if I can put this together anyone can :) The internal dimensions are 18.5" L X 16.5". The Feline Pine double tray litter box fits perfectly. The product seems sturdy and all the pieces aligned well. Everything on the instruction manual was in the box. I thought the back panel looked a bit flimsy at first but after it is assembled you find it is well made and not a problem at all. I didn't bother to check height dimensions so this was my fault, but the unit is a bit shorter than I expected it to be. It's not a problem at all though - just a bit surprising. My only concern is that my cat will spray the inside on accident as the Feline Pine litter boxes are not covered. I had solved the uncovered box in the past by putting the litter box inside a plastic container that I had cut a door into, but the container will not fit in the washroom. So far I have taped up puppy training pads inside in case my cat sprays up. I can imagine cat pee could quickly ruin this unit even if cleaned quickly. I plan to get some sort of plastic container and cut it into sheets of plastic to line the inside of the washroom just in case. If your litter box with lid fits inside then you will have no problem. They don't make Feline Pine litter boxes with lids so this is what we have to do. Overall this looks much prettier in my laundry room than the plastic container/cat box I had fashioned before. I am satisfied with how easy it was to build, and my cat seemed curious about the unit from the beginning. I think he will enjoy it :) He is 15lbs and fits in and out of the hole in the door without a problem. We give it 2 paws up! :-D UPDATE: Our cat loves it and goes in and out with ease. He had no problems adapting to this at all. He is 15lbs and fits fully inside. Also, I went and bought some "Plaskolite corrugated Plastic Sheets" from Home Depot to line the inside of the washroom in case my cat misses the litter box. I do recommend doing this. I have the white unit so the white plastic sheets blend right in. I suggest buying these and having them on hand BEFORE you assemble your washroom so you can cut the sheets to size etc. This should protect the inside of the unit. It added to the cost a little (I had to buy 4 at $4.95 each but I think it is worth it.

StarCat Positive: Overall, this product does what it's supposed to: hold (disguise) a litter box in a practical and more aesthetically pleasing way. Assembly was very quick and easy and it looks quite nice in the bathroom instead of an ugly plastic litter box. It also cuts down considerably on the litter tracking on the bathroom floor. In the picture it appears to be an ivory color, but mine is white. As others have mentioned, it would be better if it were wider and deeper to accommodate the larger litter boxes, but Amazon carries one (at a great price compared to the local pet stores!) that fits well and is ideal for this unit: Iris CLH-12 Open-Top Litter Box with Shield and Scoop With the cut-out front you can clean the box while inside the unit or easily pull it out to clean, The high sides are great for keeping the litter in the box rather than inside the floor of the unit. I purchased the unit on Amazon a few months ago, but at about $20.00 less than it's featured now - so when I found that "my" unit didn't come with a towel bar I just assumed that was why it was less expensive than others sold here and elsewhere - no fancy accessory, so a lower price. That didn't bother me. Negative: The problem I had with it was a strange smell - either the fiberboard or the paint used had a distinct odor. I noticed it a bit while I was assembling it, but once I got it all together and closed the little front door, it was much more pronounced. There were no stains or marks on it anywhere (that might suggest it was used by someone and then returned; besides it was not a urine odor but more of a chemical smell), and I'm still at a loss to explain it. At first I just covered the front door opening (so the cats couldn't get in) and put a large bowl of baking soda in there - hoping to absorb the odor; checked on it every day for a week and then put in a fresh bowl of baking soda for another week. The odor was still there and still quite noticeable. I was concerned that whatever the cause, it might be something harmful for my cats to inhale, so I took the whole thing apart again and laid out the pieces in my laundry room for two weeks until most of the odor dissipated and then reassembled it. As I said, it's a great looking unit, it was much less expensive (sans the towel bar) than any other I've seen, I just wasn't happy due to the odor and what I had to go through to get rid of it. Ending on a positive note, I'd like to say that I do a great deal of shopping on Amazon, and this is the first time I received a product I was less than happy with. It didn't even occur to me that I might be able to return it as "defective", but I'm sure Amazon would have corrected the problem to our mutual satisfaction.

I just received this litterbox hidey-hole today. The initial impression is quite good! SETUP Quality: This is pressboard furniture, so it isn't as heavy-duty as something you'd buy at a fancy furniture store, but it's also nowhere near as expensive. For the price, I'd say the quality is extremely good. My materials arrived in perfect condition, and nothing was damaged in the assembly process. I've picked it up and moved it around, and it seems pretty sturdy. However, buyers should be aware that as with most pressboard furniture, the back panel is actually a very thin piece of wood. It isn't cardboard like you'll find in cheaper kits, but it still wouldn't hold up to a swift kick. As long as you don't have rowdy kids or pets or make sure to have the back facing the wall, it shouldn't be an issue. Assembly: Assembly was a breeze. I put it together and caulked the inside in under an hour. The instructions were clear and easy to understand, and all the parts were carefully packaged and clearly labelled (including the screws and whatnot). They even included instructions for things like "if the door doesn't hang quite right, do this to fix it" which I found helpful. Litterbox: I bought the inexpensive IRIS High Shield Litter Pan (as recommended by other reviewers to go with this product) from Amazon. It fits inside perfectly and the door can close. The lip of the litterbox does come up about an inch and a half from the bottom of the washroom opening, but still plenty of room for kitty to get in and out. Modifications: As recommended by other reviewers, I caulked the inside to keep litter from getting stuck in the corners. However, I did not follow the advice of other reviewers, and line the inside with contact paper. I know after a while it would wind up tearing or gumming up and would ruin the inside. Since I have the high shield litter pan and do not have a cat that aims high, I do not see this being an issue. Will update if I am mistaken. PERFORMANCE Appearance: It looks just like the picture (the white one, not the cream color). Dimensions given (18.5" x 16.5" x 18.5") were for the interior, as I suspected. It kinda takes up most of the floor space in my bathroom, but I'd rather that than having to stare at the gross plastic litterbox. Exterior dimensions wind up being 20.5" x 19" x 25". Litter Tracking: You will still need to set this on a litter mat. It does not cut down on tracking. Litter Mat Recommendation: Since I had been trying to find a litter tracking solution forever and checked reviews for tons of products to no avail, I've decided to include my recommendation here. I have tried all manner of the plasticy loop-type mats. They catch litter really well, but they don't release it! They're gross and a pain to clean up. I just bought the LitterMaid LMC100 Litter Box Carpet from Amazon, and while it isn't the most beautiful thing in the world, it catches litter REALLY well, and is large enough to fit under this litterbox house, though it will need to be trimmed if you've got a tight space to work with like I do. I also bought a hand-vac (Dirt Devil SD20005RED Scorpion Quick Flip 7 AMP Hand Vac - RED from Amazon), which takes about 10 seconds to get the mat clean again. And I mean, CLEAN. It's so nice not having those loop-mats hoarding nasty litter... Anyway, both items were really inexpensive and work very well. How it Holds Up: Well! With the high-top litterbox I'm using, there's no cleanup at all necessary inside the "pet washroom".

**EDIT 12/17/10** I'm updating my review as I no longer use the units for litter box use, and have since turned these into storage containers (I sealed the doors with decorative paper, and now keep cat toys and other items in here instead). One of my cats has issues with covered litterboxes of ANY kind, so my decision to no longer use this product as intended has more to do with my own cat's nature than any defect of the product. If your cat does not like enclosed spaces or if they are a backward pee-er (pee straight instead of down), DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT. If it were just my other cat, I think I would still be using these boxes, however, they are not perfect and there are the drawbacks. 1. Doorway is too low/unit is too small. Ideally you would want to put a COVERED litterbox in this unit so you don't have to deal with cleanup issues when your cat inevitably misses the tray (and they ALL do). I don't know if a covered litterbox exists that can fit perfectly in this unit, but I never found one. 2. Since I was using uncovered trays, I mentioned in my original review that I lined the inside seams and entire interior with clear contact paper. I think this ultimately saved the particle board from getting soiled or damaged on those miss-fires. This is a painful and tedious process. Basically, the product is not a complete winner as is. If they went back to the drawingboard, made the length just an inch or 2 longer, and fixed the measurements of the door opening, I think this could have been a much better product. In the end, I'm just glad it's not ugly and wasn't a COMPLETE waste of my money since I've found other uses for it. ____ Original Review: I'm tired of feeling like I'm living under the rule of my two fuzzy despots, and blending the litterboxes back into human decor is just one step in reclaiming my apartment. I just put these (I bought two) together last night, and I already feel a sense of relief from the visual upgrade. I'm glad I saw the customer photo posted - I like the dark, near-black color of the actual item better than the lighter brown displayed in the product photo. Nice quality, easy to put together and affordable compared to other products of this nature. The only downside (that others have mentioned as well) is that the top lip of my litterbox shows through the doorway which is too shallow. The opening seems small, but my overweight cats (13 and 20 lbs) had no problem maneuvering in and out. **For added reinforcement since I don't have a covered litter box inside, I lined the inside seams with clear contact paper. It wasn't easy or pretty, but I need the extra safeguard since one of my cats has a tendency to miss the box, and aim straight back on occasion. I just don't want any leaks ruining the particle board and also have puppy training pads under the box as an extra extra precaution.

Updated review: I have been using this box for a month now and my opinion has completely changed. This box is horrible quality. First off, finding a good box to fit inside is very difficult. At first I found a low walled box that fit, it was smaller than the box but not terrible. Well, my cats were peeing and getting it in the box instead of their litter box. After one time, the box was cracking and bubbling. I did research and found a high walled litter box to fit inside and my cats are still managing to get their pee in the box and not their litter box. I tried using puppy pads to soak it up, but its still ruining the box. If you have a cat that pees standing, don't bother with this box, you will just be wasting your money. Now I have spend hundreds of dollars and have nothing that works. I bought two of these boxes and now four litter boxes to fit inside. Now I need to find covered litter boxes my cats can't pee outside of... Lord help me... I was hoping to resell these boxes online, but they are too ruined to try to pass off onto others. Original review: I was a bit worried about this hidden cat box but decided to give it a try anyways. I bought my first house (yay!) and needed to find a way to allow my cat boxes to be on the different floors without being ugly. I have a cat with diabetes insipidus. I decided it would be cruel to only have litter boxes in the basement and I worried he wouldn't make it from the second floor to basement in time. I ordered two boxes MONTHS ago and just held my breath hoping they would not be damaged. Well, I finally put them together. I put both together, alone, in less than an hour. The directions were fairly clear, only a few areas were confusing but I figured it out no problem! I wouldn't say these boxes are super durable, you don't wanna sit on them or place super heavy objects on them. I have them in my living room and they look very nice. I kind of regret getting the white, so I may end up painting them down the road. I will say they have some minor blemishes on each but nothing terrible or super noticeable. I have not looked for cat boxes to fit inside yet, but am sure it won't be too difficult. I plan on lining the inside of the boxes with trash bags to help prevent any loose litter or haywire urine to get everywhere/ruin the boxes.

The most stylish and elegant litter box cover. I just cannot rave enough about this. One of my best purchases on Amazon. Background - I have 9 cats at home. 2 of them are indoor-outdoor cats and the rest are indoor only cats. Even the ones that go outside like to do their 'business' inside my home. I have 5 litter boxes in different places (including two in the living room). The regular litter boxes work well but let's face it, they all look ugly. Even the prettiest litter box in Pet Smart looks like an eyesore. I was really embarrassed when I had visitors over. I want my home to neat, tidy and beautiful all the time and the regular litterboxes were not helping at all. I was longing for something that looked beautiful and easily accessible by my kitty babies. Amazon came to the rescue again. I came across this beautiful thing and did a trial by buying one. I loved it so much I ended up buying 3 of them. Assembly - I wouldn't say assembly is a breeze. There is some amount of work involved. It is better to have a helping hand and the right tools. Structure - The wood seems to be of decent quality and the whole structure seems to hold up well.It does not wobble at all. Looks - This is what drew me to the product. The walnut color came very close to the other furniture in the living room. I positioned two of them in the living room. One on each side of the TV stand facing sideways (so the door is not visible to someone watching the TV). The finish is nice and smooth and blends so well with the living room furniture (which are in cherry/ mahagony color). It looks so classy. I even accented this with some contemporary vases and balls. OMG, it just looks fantastic. Summon the interior designer in you and use this as a piece of furniture and accent it. We also do a terrific job of keeping our home odor free by cleaning the litter box more than two times every day. We had a guest visiting our home 2 weeks back and she was curious to know where our cats did their 'business'. She knew we had a lot of cats and was looking for litter boxes in our living room. We then showed her this and all she said was 'wow'. Tips - Like the inside with a thick towel that absorbs any pee (should your cat's pee spill outside the litterbox). Also, we place the deodorizer (the kind you stick to the wall) on the inside. It helps neutralize poop and pee odor. Also please buy the 'Iris Open Top Litter Box' (available on Amazon) with this. It is the only litter box that goes well with this. I want to thank the person that came up with the idea and designed it. My only complaint is this comes in just one size. Wish this came in bigger sizes also to accommodate bigger litterboxes for larger cats. One of my babies is on the verge of being obese and he has a tough time using the smaller litter boxes. I set up a regular extra large litterbox (the regular one) for him upstairs.

Obviously only time will tell what I think of this product. I've only just begun using it and I know that some find long term use leaves something to be desired. However I bought this item based on the recommendation of my neighbor. She has one in white (mine is espresso). When I was cat sitting for her I was impressed. Of course her cat has midget legs and is not as picky as mine LOL so we will see what my two full size furballs think (my old maid tends to walk up to litters and if it takes any extra effort from her she won't bother to use it). Item arrived in excellent condition. Espresso color is nice and as expected, though a few spots are lighter. They face inside so I didn't mind. It was very simple to put together and I had it put together before my husband got back from the corner store that is about two seconds away. (And he does not doddle at stores like I do). Of course, I have been DIYing since I was a kid so it isn't saying much BUT I feel like it is something any person can put together. The boards were solid, no broken bits or bent corners. Everything fit as it should. Upon the suggestion of others in previous reviews I decided to caulk the seams/edges inside to ensure no leaking came through if a cat decides to pee out (hopefully not an issue with the high sided litter box I found on Amazon and heard about from other reviewers (and my neighbor!). We rent our house and it has fickle wood floors that go black with tannin if you even think of spilling something on them. When we first moved in, not realizing this, we put our old plain litter box on the ground and my old maid had a bladder infection that gave her the idea to not pee in the box, thus ruining some of our flooring. I am watching this new setup with baited breath, hoping it is the answer to our prayers. I am proactive though so I took extra measures against the pee (like with the silicone caulking) by also lining the interior with some clear plastic sheets that are sold for lining your shelves. All in all I am pleased with the product, and it makes a lovely end table that matches our other furniture. The photo on Amazon does not do it justice. I almost didn't buy because the stock photo looks almost grey brown, but that was not the case! My star rating will remain unless the quality of the product is not as it seems. Hopefully my cats also give it a 5 star rating, but if not I won't hold that against the seller or manufacturer. I just have fickle felines!

It was hard to assemble at first, because I apparently missed one of the steps to do... It was like a house of cards about to collapse. After correctly re-assembling it, the thing was finally sturdy and good looking. I did not need to use wood glue. I bought it when it was on sale, but I still find that it's expensive for what it is. Afterall it's only a plywood box made in China. Otherwise, this is a great furniture for litter boxes. I might buy a second one later on if they put it on sale again, I would like to try the espresso color.

Arrived damaged, didn't want to send it back as it came from America and cost me £25 import tax although was advertised as free uk delivery, and I don't think it was made clear enough it was coming from America. Very shabby and cheaply made.

Sieht gut aus und hat wahrscheinlich auch ein gängiges Maß für normale Katzentoiletten, aber nicht für unsere, da diese etwas größer geraten ist. Die Toilette geht sich um eine Kleinigkeit nicht aus.
