Penthouse: 45th Anniversary Special Edition Collector's Book

i don't care about history, or review, or whatnot. pretty girls, great photos are all i want, and that is what this marvelous book offers. love it!

Hmm, like the reviewer before me I have noticed that many of the older photographs look terrible. These selections are seemingly scanned from vintage Penthouse issues, though why they look so fuzzy is a mystery to me. The problem must be one of three: the source material, the scanning process or the printing. Now, I'm no photography expert, but before Penthouse even existed photographers used cameras capable of more detail than what is presented in this collection. Also, surely Penthouse maintains a proper archive of their back issues just like Playboy does, and if they don't they should be ashamed. If these two assumptions are correct, then the fault lies with either the scanning or the printing. Of course, only the publisher knows the full story. It could very well be that both me and the previous reviewer received a defective copy, and that there are other buyers whose copies are perfectly fine. Moving on, while this is indeed disappointing, I hardly believe it merits a low rating. The quality of the newer material is excellent and not all of the older ones look crappy. The newer stuff makes up a vast majority of the book anyhow; the ratio is 10 to 1 at least. The physical book itself is also impeccable; the glossy pages and sturdy sewn binding precisely what you expect with anything from Edition Skylight. In my opinion it is easily worth owning for the price, though some might want to think twice before buying. As an avid collector of nude photography I am a far easier sale than most people are; my 'naked lady library' is one of my hobbies and I'm always looking to expand it. Your mileage may vary.

This book should be titled " a few bad pictures of girls from the 90s and a bunch of random pictures from the last 8 years". This is my first bad purchase from Amazon and it is really bad. The title and description have no bearing on the book what so ever. There are some really grainy bad photos and it is not a collection since 1969.

I was hoping this would have been a collection of all of the playmates but it is not. While I still enjoy the book and most imagery (I'm not sure why some images look as if the publisher scanned in the actual magazine) I am dissapointed in what was supposed to be a "collectors special edition".

If you like over 318 pages of the best of the selected beautiful nudes from Penthouse through the years, this book is well worth it with its print in heavy-stock paper.

Although the selection of models is quite nice, and the book is very thick, the quality of some of the pictures is really bad. It looks like some of them were scanned from old magazines or were enlarged from some low-rez .JPG files downloaded from the internet. Or maybe frame captures from VHS video. I pre-ordered this book months ago, hoping for a good product. I have purchased other books published by Edition-Skylight before, and have always been pleased with the photos. What a let down.
