I’ve been using this Pepsi Max SodaStream syrup for a while now, and overall I’m really impressed with how close it gets to the real thing. It arrived well packaged, and being an official SodaStream x Pepsi product, it definitely feels like a proper, branded item rather than a generic alternative. Straight away, it gave me confidence that the taste would be on point. Taste-wise, it’s very close to actual Pepsi Max. I use a SodaStream Terra and tend to add a bit more carbonation than recommended (around six bursts instead of five), which gives it that extra fizz I prefer. When prepared like that, it tastes really good — honestly very similar to the real drink. If you compare it side by side with a can, you can tell a slight difference, but on its own it’s more than satisfying. There’s no unpleasant aftertaste either, which is something I was a bit concerned about. It has that familiar Pepsi Max flavour and goes down just like the regular drink. Each bottle goes a long way as well. You can easily get around 9 litres per bottle, or even more depending on how strong you like it, so it’s quite flexible and works out well for regular use. It’s not just me using it either — the whole family drinks it, and even guests have commented on how good it tastes. It’s one of those things that people don’t expect to be this close to the original until they try it. In terms of value, I bought it on sale and it made a big difference — it was about £11 cheaper than the usual website price, which worked out at roughly £4 per bottle. At that price, it’s an absolute bargain. Compared to buying cans regularly, it works out cheaper over time, and personally I also see it as a slightly better option since you can control how you make it. Overall, I’d definitely recommend it if you already have a SodaStream and enjoy Pepsi Max. It’s convenient, tastes great, and offers really good value for money.

I was a bit sceptical about how close the syrup would taste to actual Pepsi Max, but I was pleasantly surprised. It has a really good Pepsi Max flavour and, when mixed with properly chilled sparkling water from my soda stream, it’s very close to the bottled or canned version. It’s also really convenient having the syrup at home rather than constantly buying bottles and cans, and works out much better value for money. I find you can adjust the amount slightly depending on how strong you like your drink, although it does take a little trial and error to get the ratio right. Overall, really happy with it. It tastes good, is easy to use and saves a lot of space compared with storing loads of bottles. I’ll definitely keep buying it.

We have bought this on repeat several times now as it is reliably good taste and feels like good value for money. The taste is great and if you like the ready-mixed pepsi max flavour, you won't be disappointed. Is it good value compared to buying ready mixed pepsi? Generally yes, it works out a little cheaper. At time of purchase it was £29.44. Six bottles making 9 litres each works out at at around 55p a litre. My current soda steam gas bottle (using the exchange old bottle to bring down costs) is about 25p a litre, so this works out at 80p a litre. If you ignore supermarket deals, this roughly equates to around 20-30p cheaper (obviously, this is based on my local shops and current pricing, if the exact amount of saving is important, please do your own local research). However, for me, the real saving is in the space storage. 6 bottles of this mix is a lot less to store than 27 2l bottles of pepsi. It is also a lot less plastic to bring in the home. The max version is the one without sugar (does have aspartame and sucralose), zero fat, zero carbs, and just a tiny amount of salt (thanks to the preservative).

Edit/ new review with different info: We tried it using water from a spring in Wales, we were on holiday and played a hunch. Let me explain, I like to dilute the bottled stuff with soda water 50/50. I prefer the taste that way, but I noticed that when I did that in Wales, the mix was slightly different in flavour. I was about to bin the concentrate or leave it on the wall outside our house hoping someone would take it. On a whim, I took all 6 bottles down to Wales having only just installed a soda stream on our last trip down, our old one. I put a splash of the evil black liquor in a pint glass, about 10cc or so, poured in the fizzy water and like last time it looked about right. However, the taste was not too bad, pleasant even, not Pepsi max, but close enough. I got through a bottle and a half in a fortnight, I'm considering buying more for down there, not for home though, I've learnt my lesson. In short, buy a bottle from Tesco, try it, don't necessarily follow the instructions, experiment. If your water isn't suitable, try bottled water instead perhaps. Either way, you'll only bin one bottle, not 6 if you don't like it. We have a fancy water filter at home, it makes the water taste better than the regular tap water. However it has no effect on the taste of this PM Syrup, so if you've got the wrong water, you're going to get bad results. Original 2-star review left for clarity. Using water at home, both filtered and unfiltered, I even tried boiling it: When two household names get together to bring you a product, it will be great. Right? Sadly that isn't always the case. I usually mix soda water 50-50 with Pepsi Max from the 2ltr bottles. It tases like the stuff from the pub, which is post-mix syrup and soda water. I can tell by the colour if it's too weak, or too strong. So tentatively I began mixing by colour, first a teaspoon, then another and so on. Wasn't long before the "saccharine taste" hit me hard. Obviously, it needs more syrup to cover it up. Again, it wasn't the case and the aftertaste was awful. This is not to my taste, there must be someone somewhere that will love it. Maybe a recovering rona victim would be able to cope with it, but my 7 fully functioning tastebuds can't cope with it. There must be a reason why the home mix syrup is not the same stuff that the pubs use, but I can't understand why. In short, don't bother with this because it's the same old "knockoff cola" taste SodaStream peddled in the 80s. Pepsi ought to think again about endorsing this product.

This is one of the best branded Sodastream flavours. At the time of review, this was excellent value. This is easy to use and comes in the newer flip top bottles. These are far easier and less messy to use compared with the old style bottled. Overall, it tastes amazing and is convenient to make up rather than having several dozen big bottles of Pepsi hanging around. Definitely well recommended. It's easy to mix and looks just like normal Pepsi. I tend to make up with cold tap water, but chill the water beforehand if you prefer a colder drink. The syrup can be chilled in the fridge beforehand and definitely once opened. There's no sugar in this syrup, making it safe for everyone e to drink.
