Is this compatible with wayne Dalton doors

Yes, it is compatible with Wayne Dalton Torquemaster springs, but requires a Torquemaster adapter kit (sold separately).

Will this work with a MyQ wifi opener?

Yes. I have a MyQ Wi-Fi hub setup with a Genie opener. They do have their own system Aladdin that may be better though depending on how you use it. MyQ is a pain when trying to integrate with Google Home.

Do you have to install the battery for it to work or can I leave it out?

The battery is only a backup source. You do not need to install the battery for the operator to work. The battery is for when there is a temporary power outage. The battery does require at least 24 hours to fully charge before being able to use it. So, it is better to install the battery if you plan on using it when the power does go out.

Does the rod need to be solid ?

No, the torsion bar does not need to be solid, either solid, 14 or 16 gauge steel is acceptable.
