Does the pocket open from the top?

No, it doesn’t. I’m not sure if it’s that way for every pattern, but it didn’t on mine. It was basically just a regular hoodie pocket with two openings on each side. The pocket is huge though so you could put a lot in it, or what I do is push my hands into the sleeves and then put my hands in the pocket to keep my fingers warm

Is this item also fits men sizes ??

It actually fits anyone, regardless of body size.

Would I order adult or child’s for a 12yo girl?

Either will "fit" but the bigger she can grow into, of course. The adult size will come to her shins and well past her arms.
