A nice motorcycle stereo - loud enough and compact
I installed this stereo on my 1997 Honda Shadow ACE 1100, and it works very well. Install: I had to improvise a little mounting the speakers on the handlebars - the brackets were too big to clamp down on the handlebars, and the rubber-spacing strips included were too thin, and too thick. So I cut some strips from an orange rubber mat I just happened to have, that were just the right thickness. I ran the speaker cables under the gas tank, and under the seat. The included wires were just barely long enough, with the connectors ending up under the seat (beside the air filter, which is centered under the seat on this bike). I mounted the main box of the stereo in my saddle bag so it's out of the way and protected (I'll control it with the wireless remote). I had read some reviews that the unit still draws a little power even when it's turned off, which drains the motorcycle battery - therefore I installed an extra switch that totally disconnects it from the battery (I installed this in the corner of my saddlebag, so I can snake my finger in and turn it on/off without opening the saddlebag. Use: The main feature I liked on this stereo is that it will play mp3 files on an SD card (you could also put them on a USB stick, but that sticks out farther, and prevents the protective waterproof rubber cover from fitting). It's also cool that it has an FM stereo in case I get tired of my songs (be sure to read the directions on scanning/pre-programming the local FM channels!) I just use an old flip-phone so I haven't tried playing music via bluetooth yet, so I can't say how easy/good that is. One thing I was pleased to find is that when I turn it off/on via my power kill switch, it still remembers what song I was playing on the SD card, and resumes where I left off. The wireless remote is a nice touch - right now I've got it hanging from the handlebar, but I might put it in a more secure place later. Seems to be a pretty cool little stereo - I recommend it!

Great and loud and has lasted.
Great system. We can hear it clearly even at hiway speed with full face helmets. Not much bass but it was expected per reviews. Fast shipping and easy install. Update: I've had this for a couple years now and it still works great. I made a mount for the amp and attached it with the batwing mounts. That way it's covered pretty well but gets plenty of air. I use a memory stick and the FM and still works and sounds great. Speakers are on the bars and somewhat covered by the 3 pocket windshield patch. They've been thru constant 95ยฐ days, cold(38ยฐ) rides and downpours. No complaints. As far as draining the battery, wire it thru a relay that's run thru a circuit that shuts down completely when you shut off the engine, not just straight thru the battery.

Great potential but the waterproof speakers didn't last 48 hours dry
Has a lot of potential but 2 major items stops me from giving this a 4-5 star rating. First item, the deadline to return the system was the same day as delivery (June 16 2017) so there is no time to evaluate to product or if like myself, something happens a day or two afterwards, your stuck. The second item and reason to desire a return, the left speaker quit after two days. It arrived Friday, I installed Saturday, played Sunday (it was a Fathers Day gift) Monday night, the left speaker fails. I've even tried plugging it in to the right side to be sure it wasn't the amplifier but, it's the "Waterproof" speaker. Very disappointed in that it was loud enough for my 2010 raider with all the "bells and whistles" but now only has half the power it did before. Going to try and see if amazon will make and exception but I'm sure I maybe out of luck. I will report back with results within a couple days. I apologize about the lighting in the video but the garage is pretty dark a night.

Great product for the money
I installed this unit on my excavator. Sure the sound quality isn't a 5/5 stars, but again for the money it certainly isn't bad. What I am impressed with is: I installed an external power isolation switch, and simply use it to turn on and off the unit. It powers up without having to touch the power switch on the amp which is installed remotely. It also resumes playing my USB where it last stopped- some brands start over at the beginning on each power cycle. The speaker wires aren't real long, so you may need to extend them which is not a problem.

It simply works, but not perfect
Took me 2 days to install, but only because how I placed the wires and where I put everything. I used a single pole single throw relay switch to power the amp. Power is cut when the key is off and on when the key is on. The relay is connected to my illumination at the fuse box. I initially was going to install a handlebar switch to cut power to the amp. This would have been overly redundant and so I did not. With the relay switch there are 3 switches. One at the ignition, one at the installed relay switch, and one on the amp. The amp will turn on to its last setting, stay off when the key is turned if it was off previously, and will shut off after a few minutes if no signal to the speakers is present. DO NOT CONNECT DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY. USE SOME KIND OF SWITCH TO CUT ALL POWER TO THE AMP. THE AMP ALTHOUGH TURNED "OFF" STILL DRAWS POWER DISPLAYING THE WORD "OFF". ALSO IT MAYBE CONFUSED AS BEING OFF WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY PAUSED OR MUTED. ALL THIS WILL CONTINUALLY KILL YOUR BATTERY. DO NOT RUN THE AMP OR PLAY MUSIC WITHOUT THE MOTOR RUNNING. THIS WILL DRAIN YOUR BATTERY WITHIN 10 MINUTES AT ANY VOUME OR SETTING. I TESTED THIS. The speakers were are real pain attaching to my handlebars. The first speaker took 45min!!! There are several loose pieces that "explode" under the spring tension of the clamp before you get the locking nut on and the windshield and handle bar get in the way, too.. I cut the speaker wire ends off and removed the speaker from the clamps. that made it much easier to get the clamps tight enough to place the speaker and thread the nut. I also used the thicker rubber pad that came with the speakers. Once you get everything bolted around these pads it is secure. The sound is ok. I wear earplugs when I ride and can hear the music clearly with earplugs in while riding. I don't realize how loud the speakers are until I take out my ear plugs. No wonder people at stoplights look at me and start to headbang. My music is loud!!! I placed the amp on the external back of my saddle bag for ventilation...I assume a lot of the issues people have had with the amp is related to ventilation and overheating because of where they placed the amp (in a fork bag, saddle bag, under the seat). Never saw any one put the amp there and thought I'd try it. It works and the buttons are reachable while driving. In this location, it doesn't get extremely hot like some people have described. On the amp there is an SD card, USB reader, FM Radio, and Bluetooth. The FM tuner is ok. Finding a good place for the included antenna to get a good signal is a problem. DO NOT ROUTE THE ANTENNA NEAR ANY WIRES THAT CARRY CURRENT SUCH AS BRAKE LIGHTS OR BLINKERS. It does pick up signals but they sometimes cut in and out. A mountable radio antenna (like a car's antenna) would greatly improve reception. I don't think the amp allows for just finding a station you may want. It only scans for the best signals and adds those to presets and there is no way to just choose a specific preset station. It is sequential (like a motorcycle gear box). For example, if you are on preset one you must go through preset 2-9 to get to preset ten. There is no skipping presets. No big deal for the radio. I'll likely use bluetooth more. Never used the USB. It might play music from at attached phone but unsure. The USB will not charge your phone. The SD card is good with one drawback. If you have multiple artists, multiple albums arranged in folders, like I do on my SD card, there is no "random" setting. It plays every song from whatever artist and album before you can get to a different artist. There is an internal EQ on the amp for the SD card and USB. It does improve sound quality a little bit. I don't understand why the EQ is not available for bluetooth or the FM radio. I use those more! The bluetooth simply works. You can pause tracks, skip tracks, etc. With my phones EQ the sound is good through the bluetooth. But it will not play phone calls through the speakers. No need for that. Just ride your bike and nothing else!!! The remote is good. Long pressing for volume, power on/off, EQ, and other settings is sometimes a pain. It comes with a key chain attachment. I used an adhesive attachment and put it on my handle bar. See the pictures. Overall it does what I want. Music!!! Hopefully it will last. Always ride responsibly and don't mess with the amp or remote too much. This might distract you from driving!!!

Fantastic for the money
Well I finally had a chance to get out on the road with this today. The volume was impressive I could not stand to listen to it at full volume at 55 MPH. The tone is a little "trebeley". but that is to be expected from a 3" speaker that is doing the full range of sound. The bluetooth worked well and the FM tuner is okay. I have not tried the USB or SD cards yet. I suggest going on Boss Audio's web site and reading the owners manual to fully understand this unit's limitations. I had to fabricate a bracket out of a piece of 18 GA stainless steel to mount the amp. You can see it in the pictures. I noticed that the reviews seemed to cover several models all lumped into one group. The unit comes with a 7.5 amp inline fuse in case you are worried about amp draw on your system. You can't really hide the MC520B in a saddle bag because of needing to get to the controls unless you just wanted to use the remote. I thought the remote would be dangerous to use on the road as a driver. However my wife loved being able to control things from the back seat. I will try and update this later and see about durability. For the price, you can't go wrong with this. Update: I got some SD cards to use with this and loaded a bunch of music. I had a problem with it just sampling the first 5 to 10 seconds of each song. I went back and converted all of them to MP3 format and it works great.

Very Loud for its size
Easy to install, sounds really good. The only knock on it is it needs a relay to turn the battery power on and off with the ignition or if you forget it on it will stay on if you run straight from the battery. other than that its a nice little unit.
