If water gets trapped between the foliage, it would die, so don't leave it under the rain. Poor drainage would rot the roots. Sudden temperature change, you guessed it, it would die. Let the roots fill and hit the bottom of the pot. That would cause it to sprout new seedlings, either from between foliage or at the base of the plant. Seedlings can then be transplanted when sufficient roots are seen. That won't be any time soon since this plant is still very small. At least a few years til that happens. The condition of the plant people received might be due to where they live. I love the plant I received. It was in perfect condition. I live in San Diego.. Until it is well developed or cooked, there wouldn't be any pandan smell.
