Good product!
I have medium blonde hair and bought this hoping for some subtle highlights. First thing I did was throw away the applicator and instead I used my gloved fingers to apply the product to very small sections of hair. This gave me a lot more control over where the highlights would be. I also applied it pretty close to my scalp, since my hair is already blonde. With these modifications, I liked the result. It gave me nice highlights, and the toner/gloss left my hair soft and shiny. Very good for a home kit and a lot less than going to a salon. I would use this again.

I have salon experience and this still went terribly wrong.
I thought this might be a better way to give myself highlights than the way I usually do it (learned in a salon) and it had good reviews. BUT applicator brush tool is sooooooooo weird and left my hair streaky and splotchy and didn't apply evenly so it's just awkward. Not only that, it came out a very NOT-natural shade of yellow. It looks like a kindergardener did some drunken fingerpainting on my head with yellow paint. I wish I'd at least used my own method/tools for the highlights instead of their hinky wishbone thing. So, now I've wasted money and time on this kit and I'll also be spending money and time on a proper color correction to fix it. Very disappointing and frustrating. 😖

So worth it
Just buy it! I know it’s more expensive than other highlight kits, but it’s worth it! You can do this yourself and save hundreds of $$ in the salon. The applicator is a little awkward, just watch the video tutorial.

Thought I had it
Never done this before and am not a coloring expert. Will say I am a beginner hoping to save money. I watch the videos and read the directions. Watch some Brad mondo videos to see anything else about balayage. The process was easy. BUT, I did have face framing highligta that look like was the only thing to change color. The applicator is key and great! BUT the bleach comes in half a bottle. I thought I would run out so I tried saving it. BUT I am almost done and realize I am about to have left overs then I know I messed up. I didn’t put enough. It’s splotchy. My ends doesnt take. I have spots and dark ends and lines. I thought I was doing well until I notice the amount of bleach left.

Pricey but worth every penny
The Madison Reed line is twice the price of other box hair color and highlights. This balayage is not a quick treatment-it takes about an hour from start to finish-but the results are worth the time. If you are like me, and want the more natural, low-maintenance look with softer transitions-then this balayage is for you. Highlights always give a "striped" appearance. Balayage creates a more natural look with softer lines.

Weird applicator but great result
I got surprisingly good results with this kit even though it was my first DIY highlights experience. Products worked great and left my hair feeling silky, but agree with other reviews that the wishbone applicator is bizarre and not easy to use.
