I ordered this gourd expecting the design shown in the listing, but what I got looked completely different. The rim had a different pattern, and the leather finish wasn't what I expected either.That said, the gourd itself is comfortable and feels fairly durable. I'm currently deployed with the Army and don't have space or the ability to return it, so it's been my daily gourd by default.Still, I feel misled. It is larger than the other ones I already have in my collection but not too large. The black leather wrapping makes calabaza easy to hold in your hand and the metal ring with an ornament on the top adds a touch of sophistication. The bottom has an X-shaped stand, also leather wrapped so you can put it on a table without worrying that it would overturn. The calabaza itself had a charming, rustic appeal and with proper care it will last for a lifetime. Advice - never dishwash the calabaza and don't use any detergents on it. Only rinse the internal surface with water, wipe out leather wrapping, and let it fully air dry.Using the thebmate calabaza was a delight. Its handcrafted calabash construction provided excellent heat retention, resulting in a satisfying, flavorful brew. The natural texture and shape of the gourd felt comfortable in my hands, making the drinking experience pleasant and authentic. I was somewhat disappointed by the fact that a bombilla (Yerba Mate straw) was not included with calabaza. But I already have several bombillas in my possession, so it wasn't a deal breaker for me. But if this is your first calabaza, don't forget to order a bombilla along with it, otherwise you won't be able to enjoy mate!A pro-tip for using a calabaza is to cure the gourd properly before first use. Never had a good mate cup and wow, what a difference it makes.Just make sure you have your own spoon, it's not included.It's so well made it's not even funny. It's beautiful to just look at. I feel 10 times fancier using this thing. It truly is a gourd wrapped in leather and rimmed with brass.Lovely cup. Be fancy. Get it.
