can the search coil be submurged in water?

personally I would not , but if you do make sure you seal and or tape the cable connection on the coil. but I still would not risk it. if you are going to be hunting around or in water there are any good detectors out there that are designed for use in water. if yo are beach detecting then the t2 is a good choice just stay out of the water as much as you can .

How deep will the Teknetics T2 metal detector penetrate earth looking for something very large like a chunk of billet aluminum measuring 8x3x1 inches

Based in my experience, it detects down to 12 inches. Maybe more if the object is big.
