Ready to hook a lunker
Did some practice casting in the back yard. I am ready to put it to the test soon. This rod has a nice, smooth release and can fling a lure a long way. It's light and perfect for a quick trip for some bass or crappie fishing on a pond or lake. A nice rod for teaching a young angler some of the basics of casting.

Not just for kids or beginners!
This rig very closely resembles one I had as a kid, also a Shakespeare, with cork grips. I'm returning to freshwater fishing after an hiatus of about 35 years, so I'm beginning again, as a hobby in retirement not avidly pursuing a catch. The rig appears to be sturdy and travels well. I needed to change the line to one more sturdy and visible. Perhaps if I can improve my techniques I might level up to one of the more "sophisticated" rigs I reviewed on Amazon, but I'm good with this one now. PL Bullock, PhD

Not just for beginners
I bought this to replace another lightweight rod I broke ! This is superb for small lakes ans streams ! Great for trout in the high country ! Cast an amazing distance. Great addition to my 7 other poles !

What a Disappointment!
I bought this same product a year ago and every thing worked fine-I wanted an inexpensive rod and reel that already had the line on it and that's what I got. This spring I ordered another. One of the eyelets was completely bent over. And the reel was totally useless as it was MISSING THE CRANK. I'd bet anything that some factor in its manufacture has changed. Shame on you.

A little hard to set up
this rod is very flimsy and can only catch about 2-3 pound fish and not very good for salt water only to go pond fishing
