Review: It's important to understand how cod livers are packaged. Great value for the money! - This is an excellent product. There's other brands with SLIGHTLY better flavor, more "whole" livers, and better consistency -- but this brand is excellent for the money and the difference is so slight that I'm very happy to save a few bucks and purchase this brand. It has a very light, clean flavor (sort of like very very mild tuna fish) and nice firm texture. I've never had any issues with dented cans whatsoever, although I order it through Prime. The reviewers complaining about the amount of oil in a product (this tinned cod liver or other) clearly don't know how this product is packaged. It's important this be understood: The cod livers are harvested and sealed into tins by weight. The tins are then heated, which steralizes the livers and also causes the livers to release their own oil. Oil is NOT added to the tin! Cod is a lean fish, meaning most of its fat is in the liver -- this is what causes the oil found in the tin. How much oil is in the livers is a function of the individual fish and time of year. It's incorrect to ding any seller for "adding too much oil", as the sellers don't add oil -- the oil is released by the livers themselves after the tin is sealed and heated. For this reason you can expect natural variations in the amount of oil in any given tin. I've never thought this brand has "too much" oil in it compared to other brands, and have found the balance between liver and oil to be quite good. Of course I'm sure there's some tins with very oily livers where the balance might be wanting, but this is to be expected in any brand as it's out of the control of the producer. I personally most enjoy cod livers eaten by themselves with a fork. I've tried other preparations, such as on crackers with cream cheese, and found the combination of fatty foods was far too rich for my palate. They're lovely straight, and in my opinion need no "dressing up". They don't taste like "cod liver oil" sold as a supplement, nor do they taste like beef, venison, or chicken liver which has a more bitter/metallic taste (I personally LOVE liver!) -- in fact I'd say cod liver doesn't really taste like "liver" at all, but it's very lovely in its own way. The oil itself is clear and very light and has little flavor itself. Please note that because of the high levels of vitamin A in cod liver a person should only eat two tins a week, max. Vitamin A is good in certain doses, but too much can be toxic and therefore intake of cod liver should be monitored and people taking a multivitamin with vitamin A, or other vitamin A supplements or who eats a lot of vitamin A rich foods (carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, etc) should be very careful eating cod liver. That said cod liver is extremely healthy (and delicious!) in reasonable portions and an excellent source of Omega 3's. Most of the nutrition is in the livers themselves (not the oil), and be aware that certain nutrients start to oxidize and degrade after the tin is open. One could choose to save the oil for use in cooking etc, but be aware the oil oxidizes faster than the livers themselves and may have lost many nutrients by the time its used, especially if not used immediately Personally I open the tin and eat the livers in one sitting as a meal -- the high fat content means just one can is very filling, and in my opinion a perfect single portion size. The tins are easy to carry for a healthy on-the-go meal. As a bonus I usually add a little of the oil to my dog's food -- he loves it and it's really made his coat shiney and smooth. Excellent value for the price!
Review: Firm texture and great flavor - Excellent quality. The texture is firm and holds together well, which I prefer over softer varieties. Compared to Belveder, it is noticeably saltier. We especially enjoy it on sandwiches with either white or red onion. It also pairs very well with baked potatoes. A product we would gladly buy again.

First time trying cod liver, and it was very good. I liked that it was wild-caught. Very nutrient-dense, and I plan to include it in my weekly menus.
