Great supplement for American history classroom texts
Who knew that a scalawag was a southerner helping northern Republicans during Reconstruction? Not me, and I'm a nerd who loves collecting factoids. 500 Facts: American History for Kids is an ideal book to supplement American history education from elementary school through high school. I am a former reading intervention teacher who understands the importance of non-fiction reading for school success. This book is organized ideally as a non-fiction resource. It includes important features of non-fiction such as each chapter being a color-coded timeline. Facts are presented as bullet points and inserts labeled as Term to Know or People to Know or Stat Fact. The text uses bold print and capitalization to highlight important names and concepts. This book will not replace a text book or other non-fiction books about American history, but it would be a great companion to either.
