consciously walking/buddha tickles/feet
consciously walkingbuddha ticklesfeetI think this is a wonderful and very educational introduction to haiku. And I find the book a masterof utility and encouragement to any wanting to write three short lines of significant verse. I findthe book soooo very complete in itself, really beyond an Introduction, but still that also.I have begun to read one of the 108 short entries each day, and then try and write a few haikubouncing off what i just read. And sometimes one will pop in that i especially like, like the oneabove, which is a unique rendering ... as I have done at times with Rumi and Hafiz.Patricia Donegon has done us a great service with this book, it is for the intelligentmind and heart. My agent thought i should make it clearthat i feel i have a very clear copyright to these four little haiku-mutantsas shown here in my review. But this book did inspired them in a way. That is: something in the book's content reveal to me some Buddda DNAi thought, and/or exposed his tail sticking out from a syallable or two,and i grabbed .... and herein is what can happen. And then some may findit interesting that Jack Kerouac refered to haiku as "pops". Yep, the fourhere just popped into this old cowboy's brain. A beautiful selection of haiku with spiritual context
I was moved reading Patricia Donegan's book because of her approach to haiku as a practice of mindfulness. The introduction sets out her thesis of haiku as having been rooted in this spiritual practice. I began reading haiku when I was very young, and the little poems seemed to me to open like flowers. Their compression and attentiveness to nature showed the way to live, not missing anything and accepting everything as you find it. This book is inspiring, enjoyable reading for its selections and its guidance to writers of haiku. I was happy to see its East-West embrace of poets, and women and men writers. Buy yourself a copy and keep it handy for daily delight!

For a Relaxing Hour or Two
This book skillfully melds poetry and self cultivation in a way that Confucian poets would be proud of. There is a nice combo of western poetry and traditional haiku in this book. Donegan really knows her stuff and she has some interesting insights.

Haiku Mind by Patricia Donegan
This an excellent little book, a companion for life. This book is the writer's first book collection of Haiku poems. Its strengths are the nature of the collection of writings which are stated to have been created by some of the best authors over the centuries, each poem is accompanied by very lucid and informative comments from the editor, Patricia Donegan, and a brief biography is given on each Haiku author. Because of the condensed nature of each small poem rapid access to dense material is afforded the reader, over coffee, before bed, while travelling --- small magical moments! An excellent and inexpensive acquisition!

Haiku - a way of being in the moment
Inspired range of haiku selections with fascinating biographical backgrounds, with helpful related essays - expanded my knowledge of haiku writers and themes and my appreciation of haiku as a meditative, aware way of being in the world and expressing thoughts, sensations, emotions in the moment. - a beautiful, artful work by a creative, original writer very deeply immersed in her subject.

To Read Again and Again
This is a collection to read and re-read, to savor and enjoy. Each of these 108 haiku comes with a the author’s thoughts about it and a little context about the poem and the author. I recommend wholeheartedly to anyone who loves poetry and haiku.

Insightful read
Nicely done explanation of primarily Zen or Buddhist thoughts through the perspective of Haiku. Insightful read.
