Yes, the Deco accordion door can be trimmed in height. We recommend trimming the door with a fine toothed hacksaw.

What the depth of the stack when the door is fully open? In other words, if I install in a 36" doorway, how many inches remains for the doorway openin

The panels proper are 4” wide (thick) when open (depth-wise). However, if the doors are open, because they are vinyl, each door is slides back about 12”…confusing but if you hold it open it compresses to 6”. Let go and it slides to about 16”. Hope this helps

Does this have to be attached to the ceiling or can it be attached from wall to wall in the door way?

Yes, the Deco accordion door slides on a top track that is secured to a header. The doors cannot open from wall to wall.

Do I need an existing doorframe?

No!! I took three 2”x3” studs (cut them to size needed) and made a door opening…I attached to walls and had them come out about 2-3” from wall to accommodate vinyl door thickness when opening and then hung track and doors! This was in a 6’ alcove so to speak, so side studs were just nailed to walls.
