Older kid appropriate content without feeling sanitized - This book strikes a good balance with traditional myths and contextual information, but avoids the more horrific parts of the traditional stories. This is not a sanitized set of tales. There's still plenty of death and war and darkness, but the many nonconsentual romances of Zeus and others are reframed. The visuals are beautiful and haunting. This was a gift for my 8 year old who loves mythology and reference books. He enjoyed this book, reading it from cover to cover in a few days and quoting it to anyone who will listen. Age 8 is probably the youngest this would be appropriate for, but adults will enjoy it too. Table top gamers looking for creative inspiration for adventures would also enjoy this book.
