Best dental care for my cat; glad to find it on Amazon
This is a great product, and I was relieved to find it available on Amazon and easy to order. I was disappointed when local pet supply stores stopped stocking Purina DentaLife Cat Treats and tried to steer me to unfamiliar brands supposedly more "natural". My cat has trouble chewing other brands or doesn't like the flavor and won't touch them again. She loves the DentaLife. She is about nine years old and has lost two teeth. Soon after I adopted her at two years, her breath was awful and I let her vet do the dental cleaning which requires general anesthesia. Although it did the job, I hate putting a cat through that, and I've heard stories about pets not coming out of the anesthesia and dying. Rather than go that route every year, I try to maintain my cat's dental health with a regular remedy at home. The DentaLife treats seem to be working. I don't detect bad breath when my cat is near me. The vet has been impressed at how clean her teeth are during regular check-ups. On learning that I was using DentaLife, the vet also thought that fiber content in the treats might help alleviate a chronic hairball issue (although not completely, and that's another story). The VOHC seal displayed on this product was mentioned by the vet as something to look for when shopping for pet dental care products.

Purina DentaLife Cat Treats really clean my cat's teeth!
One of my cats had to have 2 teeth removed last year due to a condition where the tartar caused damage to the gum tissue and nerves. The vet clinic gave me a sheet with care suggestions ranging from cleaning my cats teeth daily to adding a liquid to the water. I opted to try the liquid which I began adding 1 drop to the bowl - the cat wouldn't drink the water. I searched on Amazon and found the Purina DentaLife Tasty Chicken Flavor Treats. The directions say to give no more than 17 per day (Since I am retired, he gets 5 three times during the day and 2 before bed). To my surprise, he loves them. After 5 months of giving him the treats I took him back to the vet and the vet was amazed at how healthy my cat's mouth looked. I now give them to my Siamese to keep her tiny mouth healthy. Purina has another excellent product that I will continue to purchase.

I made up the review
The 3 categories for rating this product are flavor, scent, and value for the money. Well, I guess me as the owner of the cat, I would not be able to speak to the flavor and scent part of the rating...... ;) The only thing I can tell is, Simba the cat loves the midnight dental treat. And this is the only dental treat that he would not gobble down without chewing. Kinda of defeat the purpose of the dental part of the treat if a cat can just swallow without chewing. This reason alone is enough for this dental treat to be top ranked!! Enough said!@!

Vet Couldn't Believe My Cat's Teeth!
I am compelled to write this having just got off the phone with a Vet that just did a teeth cleaning on my 15 year old cat. She's been getting DentaLife treats for 3 years. After the first year, her teeth were so healthy, the vet said she could go 18 months vs annual dental cleaning. Today after that 18 months, a different vet did her cleaning. He asked if her age (15) was correct and if a cleaning maybe HAD been done in 2020... because her teeth were soooo healthy and clean. And my cat LOVES them!! She parks every night at the spot she knows the treats come and won't budge until they arrive. My cat has a sensative stomach, but she can munch these down and they never come back up!!

My cats eat these, but the directions say they need 17 PER DAY!?!
My cats liked these dental chews right away, and I'm glad I bought the large plastic jar full of them, because the directions are ridiculous! According to the label, you have to give your cat 17 of these treats PER DAY to get their teeth clean! SEVENTEEN!!! I wish I had known that, because at 17 a day, this jar will likely last barely a month. That makes these not a great value for the price... The directions also say the treats can't count for more than 10% of the cat's daily caloric intake (probably because the treats don't have proper amounts of taurine or vitamins, etc, to be a food substitute), but with 17 a day, I don't see how that is possible. I guess Purina is saying, "don't replace one of your cat's daily meals with these dental treats, even though 17 treats are basically 1 whole meal." My compromise was to cut the number in half, and give my cats 8 of these each, a few times a week. I hope that is enough to keep their teeth somewhat clean. BTW - you HAVE to clean your cat's teeth! If you don't do it with treats or water treatments or toothbrushing, by the time your cat gets to be 10 years old, they might start losing their teeth, making eating difficult and risking infection. If you don't give them treats, you should use a water supplement. I don't like oral water treatments because of the long list of chemicals on the label. If you can't do either, brush your cat's teeth with a cat toothpaste. I do brush one of my cat's teeth because he is docile enough to let me do it, but my other cat would kill me if I tried. The only other alternative is an annual expensive ($800+) teeth cleaning at the vet. The vet has to put the cat asleep to clean their teeth, which is both expensive and bad for their health. So I'm hoping these treats do some good, even if I only give half the recommended amount, a few times a week instead of daily. I won't know if they work until a few years, and my vet can evaluate my cats' teeth.
