No it does not, but it tracks rather easily

How long are the ropes. We have 8 foot doors.

From handle to handle mine are at apx.72 inches. They are adjustable so you can make them longer or shorter. I love this pulley. So smooth and it's adjustable. My door is apx. 7 feet so this would work fine with your door. I have mine shortened in length. I use them sitting down.
