Jesus Christ Superstar 50th Anniversary

My wife wanted this album in order to prepare herself to see Jesus Christ The play on stage in Augusta Georgia this fall. What I don’t like about the CD is the very, very, small print to the lyrics. I am a senior citizen and I have to get a magnifying glass to read the lyrics. For the price we paid the print should’ve been larger.

We love this play. This soundtrack is the reason for everything that followed and it has a respected spot in my collection for that reason. Not my favorite cast, but easily some of my favorite versions of some of these, surprisingly timeless songs. You would think a soundtrack written in 1971 with songs like "What's the buzz?" would still be performed 200 times a year in 2024, but that is the genius and quality of this effort between A.L. Webber and T. Rice.

It took me back to my high school years. Still an awesome rock opera.

I was first introduced to Jesus Christ Superstar in 8th grade when our school performed the musical. The CD brought back all the memories and was great quality.

I saw Ian Gillan with Deep Purple TWICE in Wichita in the early '70's...His charisma, his beautiful hair, his physique (he sang shirtless), and his fabulous, glorious voice had the audience spellbound, especially when he sang "Child In Time"...I bought this album when it first came out, and I played it constantly...I even played it for my dad, who among other things, was somewhat of a Bible scholar (he went to Catholic schools & was taught by priests), and he loved it, although he was kind of sad that they left Jesus on the Cross at the end and unresurrected...I said I thought that the writers were leaving it open to the listener's discretion, whether they believed or not... Ian Gillan, to me, is the only one who ever sang the role of Jesus correctly...

Have been looking for this in a cd ,I only have the lp 33 vinyl. Very pleased with it.

Great sound, clean vinyl. Keep in mind this is not the movie soundtrack if that is what you are looking for.

Conosco l'opera a memoria. Questa versione, rispetto a quella del film, ha più "tiro", linee di basso e voce di Ian Gillan (Gesù) assolutamente di un altro livello. Ben rimasterizzato, nella versione cd sembra di ascoltare un album appena inciso.

Ostern 1971 kaufte ich die LP, später die CD-Box von MCA Records. Alles gleich. Keine Osterzeit ohne "Jesus Christ", aber immer nur das Original. Kürzlich war ja Ostern, und beim Herausnehmen zerbrach die CD1, nach mindestens 40 Jahren. Ich habe sofort neu bestellt, und bin begeistert - nicht nur von der Aufnahme, sondern auch von der Hülle und dem Textheft: alles genau wie bei der alten LP, natürlich in der Größe angepasst. Nostalgie... Die Aufnahme entspricht zu 100% der LP und der Box. Eine Überarbeitung konnte ich nicht feststellen, zum Glück, denn ich wollte genau das Original. Die Rock Oper von Webber/Rice ist ein Lebens-Begleiter. Schade, dass sie heute kaum noch geschätzt und gehört wird.
