NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER! The blockbuster danmei/Boys’ Love novels from China that inspired the animated Scumbag System series streaming in English! This hilarious story of a man reborn as a villain in a fantasy novel series who ends up romancing the male protagonist is now in English, for the very first time. Half-demon Luo Binghe rose from humble beginnings and a tortured past to become unrivaled in strength and beauty. With his dominion over both the Human and Demon Realms and his hundreds-strong harem, he is truly the most powerful protagonist...in a trashy webnovel series! At least, that's what Shen Yuan believes as he finishes reading the final chapter in Proud Immortal Demon Way . But when a bout of rage leads to his sudden death, Shen Yuan is reborn into the world of the novel in the body of Shen Qingqiu--the beautiful but cruel teacher of a young Luo Binghe. While Shen Qingqiu may have the incredible power of a cultivator, he is destined to be horrifically punished for crimes against the protagonist. The new Shen Qingqiu now has only one course of action: get into Luo Binghe's good graces before the young man's rise to power or suffer the awful fate of a true scum villain! This Chinese fantasy (xianxia) comedy built around the romanticized love between two men (danmei) has been translated into numerous languages and inspired the animated series Scumbag System , which amassed millions of streaming views--including the English version on YouTube through Tencent Video. As the first novel series by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu to spur a global multimedia franchise, this incredibly fun tale led the way to her future blockbusters in the danmei genre: Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation and Heaven Official's Blessing. The Seven Seas English-language edition will include exclusive, all-new covers and interior illustrations from Xiao Tong Kong (Velinxi) and feature a translation by Faelicy (faelicy) & Lily (lily_ocho). Review: 10 Stars!!!! Fun, Fun Fun Series!!! - I had no idea I would laugh so much reading this series or that I would cry when I reached the end of it. This is not your typical story, BL or not. Surprisingly, everything in this series is completely different than anything I've ever read. It's BL (Danmei) with Xianxia, with RPC. Imagine going into the story knowing everything that's "supposed" to happen yet not everything happens as you expect it to. There are so many surprises in the fourth book. I'm so happy the author gifted us with ELEVEN extras stories! If you know this writer's work you must know how good they are! I've read The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation and Heaven's Official Blessing. Now, after reading The Scum Villians Self-Saving System I need more!!!! Believe me, you are in for a ride!! This book series is also written in from the author Omniscient perspective. You will know what more than one character is thinking through the narrative. This is no small thing. All the characters are interesting and have a back story that the Main Villian will discover with the reader while finding hidden plots along the way. I can't say enough!! The anime on Crunchy Roll is incomplete and made in 3D. It's called the Scumbag System but it only has 10 episodes. However, watching the 3D animation was fun and helped me "see" and "hear" the characters as I read. I recommend all the series from this author. I've purchased all the books, novels and graphic novels, too. I also watched "The Untamed " based on the book series "The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation". The anime is on Crunchy Roll too, called "The Founder of Diabolism ". It has 35 episodes. This one is complete. And the animation for "Heaven's Official Blessing" books are there too, with only 24 episodes. This animation is so far incomplete. Review: Worth the wait. - I think most people pondering purchasing this novel are less concerned about the content of the novel itself and more if the physical copy of the book is worth it considering that it was online for sometime unofficially. I have moved to purchasing less physical books over the years and want to put my money in more 'investment pieces'. So, when I saw that all three of MXTX's novels were getting an official printing, I felt I should put my feet - er - money behind it. SVSSS is the series that I enjoyed the most and felt like it needed some love and that it was under rated since it is a comedy/parody and very fast paced. Honestly, it wouldn't work as a longer novel to keep the humor vibe. The actual physical book is nice; good weight, nice paper, clean, crisp and all that. Good font, the design at the top of the pages for the header is an extra touch that makes it feel fancier. I like the cover art and the french flaps make it a sturdier paperback and the illustrations inside are a bonus. Yes, I also liked the profiles for other charas on the back since they featured LQG. I will purchase the rest of the series for sure and already have pre-ordered the next volume. For us linguistically challenged individuals, the glossary at the back is helpful and it does its best to help us out with all of the letter combos in English that sound wise don't make sense aka why does zh-vowel = a j-vowel. I'm certain it isn't perfect, but at least gets the point across for a lot of the names and your guess is going to at least be better and will help you put things together if you do watch cdramas. It has a breakdown of key character names, and lots of wuxia/xianxia/cultural terms some that I knew already and others I didn't which is also helpful! Me thinking that yellow is a bad color = character death but actually just meaning they are wealthy (but do die at a high rate in these novels). It also has the huge list of martial arts specific relationship terms and hopefully, all of them will stick. I know it is always a huge debate with translators if it should be XXX-shimei or younger sister XXX. Price - is it worth it? I would say that it is absolutely worth it and it isn't expensive. It is well known that the publishing industry is tough and making money off of writing is difficult. If you consider that to publish this they needed to 1.) negotiate with MXTX and her agent 2.) pay the translators 3.) pay editors 4.) pay the illustrator 5.) pay typesetters/formatters 6.) pay the PR people, HR, support staff, sales reps . . . . and the list goes on it makes it clear that licensing an author like MXTX was a safe move with her works already published in Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Burma, Vietnam etc and the fact that MDZS and TGCF had media already known in the English language audience.

Great Story and Lovely Art
For those who haven’t read this story: Imagine having the blessing of being transmigrated into a picturesque ancient China. Not only that but you’re eternally youthful and quite good looking. Not only that but you are super powerful. Not only that but you’re the villain and have a a fate worse than death looming over your head. Well, maybe it’s not all fun and games. This series is truly a wild ride with emotional highs and lows, and leaves the reader satisfied. This, of course, is the first book in the series and so covers the time of our Binghe’s white lotus days. I highly recommend giving this series a try, the story has a great sense of humor about the whole situation. For those that have read SVSSS before: I’m so impressed with this publication. The art on the cover and in the book is incredible. A truest lively addition reading experience. There’s also a glossary and information about locations, characters, relevant Chinese cultural concepts, and a pronunciation guide for important names. Though I’ve read the story before, I’m so pleased with the detail and love put into this publication. The translation is smooth and keeps the original humor alive. I’m glad I can officially support this book series!

Couldn’t have asked for a better book!
For starters, the actual book itself is gorgeous! The cover is smooth and nicely made and it feels great to hold! The interior is well designed too, with each regular page having a decorative header, and the glossary pages having a small graphic on the outer edge to differentiate which part of the book contains the story and which contains the glossary - Really helpful for readers who find themselves flipping to the back for reference while reading! (Publishers of all fantasy novels, please take note….) There are also several wonderful black and white illustrations by the cover artist throughout he book to showcase the book’s major events, and each one perfectly captures the tone and character expressions of each moment! The story itself is wonderful as well, being a comedic take on tropes of the genre, but is never fully above poking fun at itself. The main character is pretty oblivious despite being what *should* be a powerful all-knowing omniscient reader, and it’s a delight to both read his snarky and relatable inner monologue and the book’s author perfectly setting him up to suffer the consequences of his own faults. For people experiencing this series for the first time, I can guarantee this book will be even more satisfying on second read once all four volumes have been released (and ESPECIALLY if the extra chapters detailing certain side characters are eventually included). As for the translation, I’m really pleased to see how cohesive it’s been made! I think it was a great choice fitting genre terms in the glossary instead of including them all as foot notes, and leaving the most important moment-to-moment references to keep readers immersed. A lot of care has been put in to balance making it readable for newcomers with making sure everything is kept in the spirit and intent of the original work. I was pretty worried it would be a tough translation considering how much our main character likes to think in memes and euphemisms exclusive to Chinese culture that may be lost on a reader who isn’t as familiar with those. But I’m really pleased to see they did a great job conveying the intent of those parts without going too deep into explanation OR over localizing it. I’d even be comfortable recommending this book to an absolute newcomer to the genre, which is something I didn’t expect when given the choice between this and the author’s other two works. As a final note, I personally love that Seven Seas put in the time to source artists and translators from the fan community for this series of novel releases. It’s obvious that the people who worked on this love these stories and have an incredible amount of respect and admiration for the material. Overall, great release! Looking forward to volume 2!

Another BRILLIANT Novel by MXTX
Well, actually, this was the first one I’ve read, but I have also read Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation which is just breathtaking, but this review is for SVSSS. This is what you call a transmigration novel. Basically, a person dies and is then transported to another place and time, in a new body. In this case, our hero (ahem, excuse me, villain), is an average joe who read an web novel and was so full of rage at the story, when he died, he is transported into the novel world as the main antagonist of that trashy novel. He has an oh crap moment, knowing how the story ends for him, and thus begins his quest to change the story’s plot so he doesn’t die horrifically. Still with me? Okay. So I GET it. It’s a strange plot, but give it a chance. This is a Danmei novel from China, officially translated for the first time in English. I don’t know about the rest of you, but until I read this novel, I had no idea what a transmigration novel was. But it’s just fantastic. The author, MXTX, is such a wonderful story teller! He stories weave in and out of itself, concluding into on cohesive plot where there is no wasted characters, no empty moments. Everything is important and just beautifully conveyed in her world building and writing. What I love about this story so much is how much the protagonist (antagonist?)… uh, main character, changes his story. He is absolutely not willing to die a gruesome death, so literally does ANYTHING he can to prevent it from happening. Which leads to the story hero (male lead) going from loathing his entire existence and plotting his bloody death to… well, this is a MM, BL, or Danmei novel. You know what’s coming. The story takes place over the course of what looks to be 4 novels. Be prepared that when you pick this book up, it will not be over. It’s worth the wait though and I hope more people read this great story.

A Masterpiece
This is my personal recommendation for a newbie's entry into MXTX (and of course the official English translated danmei genre). Once upon a time I wandered into giving SVSSS a shot as someone who only read yaoi manga and the journey since into the wonderful world of danmei is, no joke, life altering. There is such a variety of worlds to explore in danmei and I'm so very proud that MXTX is blazing a trail for the English speaking world to see it! There are definitely easier danmei out there to ease folks into the genre (xianxia is such a niche idea that newbies might find a gaming novel or quick transmigration stories a bit easier to relate to), but this is undoubtedly in my opinion the easiest of the three series MXTX has available for you to try. Its the most lighthearted of the bunch, Shen Qingqiu as the resident distressed Millenial whisked into a novel he loves to hate is both relatable and utterly hilarious, and unlike Heaven Officials Blessing whatever cliffhanger you will run into depending on the volume of this series won't be pure torture to wait through. All three series can rightly be described as masterpieces. I do think HOB is the best written of the bunch (I stress that they all have merit and this is a personal scoring system only), but SVSS as my first danmei remains my favorite. It's also the only one of the three I've reread a few times, if only because the pain level of the other two (particularly HOB which I hate to scare you off of but recommend reading in a binge session if you can't handle angst well) means it requires more mental preparation on my part than SVSS, which may have it's own well written drama but never reduced me to full out sobbing as the crybaby I am. I'm sure everyone else has mentioned this already, but the wonderful thing about danmei as a generalization (compared to a yaoi manga) and MXTX in particular is how you really don't need to be into BL to enjoy it. The romance is secondary to the plot and if you're open minded about the BL aspect I think you'd still really enjoy the characters and the world they inhabit! If the plot or the genre intrigues you, please give this novel a try (and then check out the other two)!

This is my favorite book of MXTX! Funny, suspenseful, heartbreaking and beautiful
This is my absolute favorite book! This is MXTX’s first book and it is the best in my opinion. Shen Yuan as the millennial who dies and transmigrated into the scum Villian, Shen Qingqiu, is a wonderful character. He’s outwardly cool, yet hilariously internally freaking out over the plot holes of the book, the mysterious system and trying to keep himself from becoming a human stick. He’s very relatable. Luo Binghe is precious as the innocent young disciple who just wants to please his Shizun. Many misunderstandings occur between Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqui over the course of the story, and it is heartbreaking at times. Some people have mixed feelings about the relationship between Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe later on, but I love the dynamic between the two. I think they have a awkward but beautiful love story when all is said and done. I love the development of their love and the extras that will be in later volumes are a real treat! This book does poke fun at many tropes in a male power fantasy stallion novel with hilarious results! I also love the side characters such as Liu Qingge, Yue Qingyuan and Shang Qinghua. This story definitely deserves a live action version like the other two books. I love Shen Qingqiu and his disciple, Luo Binghe. These two reside inside my head for years now and I never get tired of reading about them. I assure you that you will fall in love with this book!

Lovely story framed into a delightful edition
I already read the novel, but as a fan of MXTX works how could I pass the chance to buy the book and support the author? I must say, I definitely am delighted! Sevenseas did an amazing job, the traslations are high quality, the paperback edition is a little jewel: beautiful colors and prints, thick paper that doesn’t feel cheap at all, lovely illustrations inside... what can I say if not thumbs up, thank you for this amazing edition of one of my favourite novels. I will definitely buy them all! As for the story, for those that happens to find this book for the first time: if you’re familiar with the genre, it’a a reincarnation novel where the protagonist finds himself as the scum villain that abuses the protagonist all day long, and he finds himself in a tricky situation: what can he do to not end awfully like in the book? And this makes a good premise for a LOT of funny moments. Mind, this is the less angst novel from MXTX works, so it’s the funnies to read. I absolutely recommend it for who likes the genre, Shen Qingqiu is one of the funniest characters ever, you can’t dislike him! So, to end the review: the book is a quality edition, and the story is amazing, so I absolutely recommend to buy the paperback edition if you can. It totally deserves to be in your library!

I think the printer exploded or something, cause some pages are covered in tiny dots..... The story is sooo entertaining. would buy next part 💅💅💅 Also, it came in paper envelope that probably caused damage, like bent pages and slightly crooked spine 😔😣
