Featuring more than 100 recipes, Amaro is the first book to demystify the ever-expanding, bittersweet world, and is a must-have for any home cocktail enthusiast or industry professional. The European tradition of making bittersweet liqueurs--called amari in Italian--has been around for centuries. But it is only recently that these herbaceous digestifs have moved from the dusty back bar to center stage in the United States, and become a key ingredient on cocktail lists in the country’s best bars and restaurants. Lucky for us, today there is a dizzying range of amaro available—from familiar favorites like Averna and Fernet-Branca, to the growing category of regional, American-made amaro. Starting with a rip-roaring tour of bars, cafés, and distilleries in Italy, amaro’s spiritual home, Brad Thomas Parsons—author of the James Beard and IACP Award–winner Bitters —will open your eyes to the rich history and vibrant culture of amaro today. With more than 100 recipes for amaro-centric cocktails, DIY amaro, and even amaro-spiked desserts, you’ll be living (and drinking) la dolce vita. Review: A great way to expand your Amaro knowledge, try some new recipes and expand your collection. - A lovely book for anyone interested in drinking Amaro. I especially enjoyed the cocktail recipes though the descriptions of the different brands/types was a helpful guide which led me to expand my collection significantly. Review: Amore this Amaro book! - The book is so well written with past stories about adventures in finding Amari at bars & distilleries in Italy, the USA, and even other parts of Europe! The author breaks down so many Amari and Fernet, etc. that the knowledge feels endless. Loved every minute of it. Thank you!

Great information on world of amaro
I got interested in the world of Italian amari, primarily to make variations of Negronis and other craft cocktails. This is a wonderful book. Mr. Parsons gives you a lot of information about various amari and gives you recipes for cocktails and foods using amari. It also is filled with beautiful photos. I've found some of the amari described in the book: Campari, Aperol and Fernet Branca, which are available most anywhere; and more scarce ones such as Meletti, Montenegro and Cynar. The book has inspired me to search out in liquor stores the harder to find ones. Many are available only in Italy, which makes me want to visit Italy again. Salud!

A very educational text on Amaro - highly recommended if you are into or getting into Amaro!
More informative than I expected. I have really gotten into Amaro and this is a great text to accompany my Amaro journey! The one drawback is that nearly half of this book is a list of recipes. Many of these can be found online. There are also lists of various amaro themed bars in various US cities. This book also looks at the production of, styles of, and producers of Amaro and similar liqueurs in other countries - though heavily focused on Italian Amaro. Highly recommended! Oh and if you're not into Amaro... just try an Averna on the rocks - club soda optional - as an after dinner drink. It will change your life! Well... maybe just encourage the consumption of Amaro after meals anyway...

Best bar / spirit book I’ve read in a while !
This book is phenomenal and well written. I poured over it the moment I read the introduction. It’s just be right balance of depth and breadth to appeal to professionals jn the bar / distillery industry but also to a drink enthusiast. I get bored easily with cocktail and spirit books who rely too heavily on a recipe (you can google it) but to see recipes carefully curated alongside amaros and their flavor profiles - I’m absolutely enthused. After reading this I give more amaro suggestions as a bartender.

This is every bit as good as his last book
I don't think you'll need another book on amaro but you certainly need this one. Amazing photography and concise elegant descriptions make this an entertaining and informative read. I went from basically ignorant on amaro to confident ordering just what I want at the bar or knowing what to grab at the liquor store.
