It’s amazingly fast
Consistently fast 600+ mbps. Never lost connection anywhere in the condo. 3 lans on the side, good enough for anything that needs to be plugged in. Otherwise wireless is just as easy and reliable. You have the option to bind ip to any device to like so the ip never changes even if have to reboot the router. You can choose different ssid for the 2 5Ghz network, or keep the same name. Totally up to you. This router is the most secure out of all the ones I’ve used in the past. I bought a single, since I don’t have a big space. If I need an upgrade on figure, configuring a node for the extra space is easy enough.

speedy but big…
It’s much bigger than what I had imagined it to be. Was hoping for even better wall penetration though it’s already good.

Works well
Arrived in time in good condition. Easy to set up and configure. The web interface provides comprehensive controls and is well laid out. I got very good signals and solid connections despite being in a neighborhood with many wireless networks.

Pretty good choice among mostly mediocre, expensive competition. Firmware occasionally problematic.
I've used 2-3 of these (hardware revision 1) for a few years, mainly in a wired backhaul mesh configuration. As is typical with Asus, the feature set exposed by the default firmware is impressive. Notably, unlike TP-Link/Deco and Eero, the parental controls and advanced security features included with Asus routers don't require a subscription. From about 1.5 years ago to 6 months ago, the web and mobile admin UIs would sporadically get very slow, and occasionally DNS would stop working... Rebooting the main router would always clear up the problem, which I'm pretty sure was caused by bugs in Asus's closed source `cfg_server` daemon (google [cfg_server xt8] and you'll find my thread on SNBforums). More recently, the 388.23xxx and 388.24xxx firmware has seemed very stable, so I can cautiously recommend this product... The only remaining downside is they only have a single 2.5G port and don't support link aggregation on the gigabit ports, so there's not much point to a >1Gbps WAN connection if you're using one of these as your main router--wired backhaul will be limited to 1Gbps, and I've NEVER seen a WiFi 6 link exceed 1Gbps. Asus AiMesh is pretty hard to argue against, so I recently replaced my core router with a GT-AXE16000 so I could upgrade my internet connection to 3Gbps... I still have two XT8s as mesh satellites, now over 2.5Gbit wired backhaul; I took a chance and backed up the XT8 core router's configuration, and restored it to the AXE16000, and the satellites came right back online with no tedious re-pairing required.

Very expensive mesh network but very good
I had a 2 nodes but it was not enough, so added a 3rd node. The setup was very easy and the now wifi is fast and stable everywhere. I think people that complaint about performance should just add more nodes.
