Whats the paintbrush bit for

I have bought these a number of times for my granddaughters and although I have not used them myself, I have watched them use them. They have a different tip at each end, one for coarse work and colouring in and the other for fine detail. There is also a blender pen, which is used to thin the colours and allow the artist to blend the colours to create different effects, a bit like water colours, but without the surplus water, as the alcohol evaporates quicker.
