I was slightly disappointed when I opened the package and they were plastic that looked like metal. However, after installing the first one which took all of 1 minute, it worked so well I didn't care what they were made of. I looked around just to see prices on metal ones and they were quite a bit more expensive and not worth the extra money. These are also nice and small and since they are installed with just the spring push sticking out and the rest hidden in the cabinet, they are very discrete. My wife couldn't find them at first even though she knew they were there. So they aren't big and noticeable, you will probably never have anyone notice. Our neighbors just purchased these as well because their young daughter keeps slamming her fingers in the cabinet doors. So they are also great to help prevent fingers being smashed if you have little ones at the house. The instructions it comes with are straight forward. Just drill a 3/32 I believe pilot hole then screw it in and you're done. We had four doors that needed two per door. Even with 1 of these on the door it would not slam, it just didn't have the same catch and slow close as the smaller doors. So it didn't really NEED two but I wanted those doors to close like the rest. The screw adjustment on the back is very easy to adjust and makes a big difference. That adjustment is how our bigger doors could've used just one of these but I used two anyway. It also was good for our smaller lower cabinet doors to adjust it back to close easier as those doors aren't as big. We have 48" cabinets and all of our standard doors just used one and definitely don't need two. I would highly highly recommend these to anyone looking for that soft close on their doors. Are these dampers still delivering after 6 mo of use?** A: for us they started to fail after 4-5 years, that is with teens closing doors hard. Cost of buying another set of these $50 vs redoing our kitchen cabinets is a no brainier. Even if they only lasted 3 years this is still not a difficult decision. I never had a body on one of these break so being plastic is not an issue. the spring just wore out. I could have put 2 per door but am more than happy with how long they lasted for the price. Kids are grown and moved out so 1 per door will be fine for me and the wife **Q: Do these come with the screws or will I need to buy those separately? If I need to purchase screws what size is needed?** A: Mine came with some screws but not enough for all 25 dampers **Q: what does this mean **works for cabinets with self-closing hinges only?** A: Yes, without the self closing hinges, you would have to push the soft close unit with the door to close. If you are going to replace the hinges, look at the soft close hinges, then you would not need this product. It is however a very easy to install and works very well, no more cabinet doors banging. **Q: Is the Rok soft close dampner made entirely of plastic and painted with a metal type (nickel) finish? Or are parts of the dampner plastic and metal?** A: It's been a while since I installed these ( I've since moved to new house with dampers as part of hinges) but there is a minimum of metal, mostly plastic and I did have a few of them fail to dampen the door closing even when adjusted to max. Fortunatley I had extras on hand. I would suggest buying about 10-20% more than you need to replace those that fail after many uses. Not a bad design but could be built a bit more sturdy for longer lasting performance. They appear to be doing the job. I now have nice soft-closing cabinet doors. What a difference! I will have to install a second damper on a couple of heavier doors, but that's not a big deal. When installing on lower cabinets, they are easier to install on the lower corners than the upper corners because of limited visibility when drilling the pilot hole and the screw falling out as you try to screw it into the damper. I would have installed 50 dampers, but 2 of them were defective.
