401 DESIGNS Titanic Coal with Certificate of Authenticity Authentic Memorabilia

Husband was thrilled to receive an authentic piece of the Titanic for Christmas. As the buyer, I was disappointed. I did read the description carefully and knew that the piece would be tiny; however, the case that the coal comes in is very strange! The tiny flecks of coal are actually on the OUTSIDE of the hard plastic case (the whole plastic case came inserted in a small plastic ziploc bag). When you take the hard plastic case out of the bag, the tiny pieces actually just fall out! How in the world are you supposed to display tiny flecks of coal without them just blowing away?? I actually took a clear piece of Scotch tape and put over the hole so the pieces won't fall out. Also, the "certificate of authenticity" is so very small and barely readable with the tiny typeface. I understand the small pieces of coal, but they could have at least printed the certificate on something a little larger and nicer. It is my DEFINITE opinion that the tiny flecks should have been SEALED INSIDE the plastic display case. Be very, very careful opening up the ziplock bag, or you will be getting a magnifying glass to find the pieces on the floor!

Tickled to death to receive my coal!The authenification certificate came upside down in the packaging (Weird). It wasn't worth fussing about, I simply cut the plastic header (that included a hole for hanging as in a retail store) which allowed me to prop it on my own stand. (If you prop it as in their photo, the package is actually open and 'leaning' on the back of the case. ).In my case, I chose to swap the certificate (originally facing forward) with the mini NY Newspaper enclosed (originally facing backwards.) I got this for my dad. He's a HUGE titanic nerd, he know nearly everything about the crash, but when I got this in the mail, I had to do some serious reconstruction on it. I got a little glass vial and transferred the coal to that and framed the little certificate it came with which by the was was only like 2.5 by 4 inches or something.This might be good for a kid as is, but if its for an adult do yourself a favor and dress it up a bit.

This is the only way I could ever own a "piece of the Titianic," so I love it! It's a small piece of coal, yes, but looks great on a desk or shelf. Can't complain for the price, either. And just because another reviewer gave a low rating, I feel the need to re-iterate that these pieces of coal are all from the same big chunk of coal that was bought at an auction. They are chipped off and sold individually, which is why all of the pieces have the same item #. The certificate is a copy of the actual auction certificate of authenticity, which the description clearly states, so don't be surprised.

This is the most wonderful thing I’ve ever bought in my entir life. If I had the money I would buy 1000 more. Very proud to own a pice of the Titanic And will always have this as a pice to remember the truthful tradic sad event . I always been upess with the Titanic my entire life. Haveing a pice from the Titanic is greatest thing to happen in my life. Thank you Amazon.

This was a cute little idea. I knew it wouldn't be very much, but when it arrived, it was VERY small. I wasn't too upset about it as I know it wasn't too expensive and yeah, there's not much of it left. However, the piece of coal sits outside of the plastic and looks as if it might fall out at any moment, so for that it gets lower rating. It was a gift as my mother loves anything Titanic related and she still thought it was cool. But I docked another star as the writing was so small that she could barely read it. I'm younger and I had trouble reading some of it. It was an okay item, but nothing that blew my socks off.

Very cool. My daughter is obsessed with the titanic and she loved this as a gift. I wish the piece of coal itself was protected better tho. It’s glued inside a hole and there’s nothing covering it. It’s just silly packaging I think. But it’s still pretty neat.

Our 9 year old grandson was thrilled! The authenticity certificate is for the original larger chunk that these tiny pieces are from. But they are the real thing! Makes it affordable.
