Perfectly balanced. No tangling.
I have been jump roping for close to 15 years for high school wrestling, jiu jitsu and general fitness. Here are a list of factors that I think make for a great jump rope and how I think this rope lives up to each one: (1) Speed: A lot of cross-fit enthusiasts are really into speed ropes. Specifically, the very thin ropes that move a thousand miles a second whether you want them to or not. This rope is not that. This rope is, however, as fast a rope as you should want unless all you are looking to do is break world speed records. Meaning, this rope can go very fast if you want it to, but also very slow if you want it to, which really makes for a great ability to take your workout through different intensity levels depending on how you're feeling. Which brings me to my second factor. (2) Control: This rope is easy to control. And I mean EASY. You want to go fast? You want to go slow? You can go from 0 to 60 - and vis-a-versa - at the drop of a hat. You want to do double unders while going fast or slow? EASY. You want to criss-cross, multiple times in a row, while going fast or slow? EAVEN EASIER. What's more, no matter how fast or slow you go, or what tricks you might do, this rope NEVER tangles. (3) No tangling: This rope does not tangle. At all. If you've ever experienced a rope that tangles (especially when your in the middle of a great workout), you will appreciate this rope. (4) Balance: This factor is somewhat related to the previous three, and part of why this rope is so easy to use. The weight distribution from the handles through the rope is superb and feels amazing. If I had to draw an analogy, think of it like what driving a high end race car must feel like, responding perfectly and comfortably to your every movement. Effortless control and performance. Can't say enough good things about this rope. I jump rope even more now than I used to simply because this rope is so much fun to use. One final word of advice: the rope will be purposefully long when it arrives. Begin cutting it down in small increments until you find the length that feels the best for you. Give each new cut a a couple minutes of testing until it feels "right." Patience here is key, but worth it.

A Great Rope For The Serious Jumper
I decided to upgrade to the Rope Master after having completed the first few chapters/programs of Buddy Lee's Jump Rope Training book with an Altus speed rope (also purchased from Amazon). The Altus was a great beginner rope, but it can't hold a candle to the Rope Master. The Rope Master rotates effortlessly and has a very smooth swing. Some other reviews complained about noisy bearings and bearings which came loose - I have not experienced either issue (I've only owned for a month though). The long handles are excellent for performing arm crossovers and the light weight of the rope has allowed me to lengthen the duration of my sets. The plastic material of the handles does seem like it may be a little fragile, but has held up fine so far under minor abuse. The cord was definitely kinked right out of the package but relexed after a few uses. Even if the cord remains slightly kinked, it will not have a real impact on your rope swing. I only jump rope on carpet, rubber, or wood surfaces so I expect the cord to last a while - no signs of wear so far. Don't jump rope on concrete...period. Also, if you like feeling pain, then you will love jumping rope barefoot (this rope smarts pretty good on contact). I jump rope about 5 times a week, so for me, the price was justified. If you aren't as serious about jumping, then you may want to consider a less expensive alternative. Overall - If you want to make rope jumping a regular part of your workout routine, then this is a great rope to train with.

Perfect for Double Unders
I have both this and the Buddy Lee's Aero Speed Hyperformance Jump Rope with EXTRA Replacement Cord , and between the two I prefer this one for its functionality but I like the Aero Speed for its aesthetics and material. The Rope Master's extra handle length is what gives it the edge for doing double unders, but for speed and control the Aero Speed wins hands down. For versatility, I'd choose the Rope Master if you have to decide between the two, but keep in mind that these handles are made of light plastic (which does seem quite durable, contrary to what other reviewers have stated) while the Aero Speed has some nice light metal handles. People always ask me what that is hanging around my neck when I wear my Rope Master, because it does look kind of like...a toy. But make no mistake, it is in fact a great jump rope, albeit expensive! *Overall, I'd give it an A- for cost:functionality. This jump rope will surely aid in advancing your roping skills! On a side note, as other reviewers have mentioned, the PVC does arrive kinked and wrinkled and even after hanging it for long periods of time, they are unlikely to come out completely. However, they shouldn't have any affect on your jump roping unless you're going at a super slow speed. Also, make sure that you don't cut it too short (as I did)...remember, you can always cut more off later but you can't very well add more on!

Good rope for moderate to heavy use.
Great jump rope, the ball bearings are smooth, it's easy to set the rope length to meet your needs. My only complaint are how the handles feel in your hands, I end up holding them just above the ball bearings and not on the padded part. Nothing like jumping rope to let you know how out of shape you really are.

If you can't do double unders with this rope, you are bad at jumping rope!!
People who are giving this product bad reviews don't seem to understand the purpose of these jump ropes. The Buddy Lee Aero Speed Jump is better for pure speed and for double unders, etc...This jump rope is better for tricks. That is why the handles are long and made of plastic. The length makes crossovers and other tricks much easier and the plastic bends just enough to allow for other more advanced tricks. If you jump every day with these, you'll probably need to replace them once a year. The Aero Speed, will last longer, is better for speed, but does not have the larger handles which are better for tricks. If you want the plastic ones to last longer, reinforce the plastic (as soon as you get them) with duct tape. This will alleviate pressure from the plastic as it bends slightly during jumps. And seriously, if you are having trouble pulling off double unders with this rope...you need to get off of the computer and practice jumping rope. Double unders can be executed with ANY JUMP ROPE!! This is a particularly well made jump rope...if you can't do double unders it is a YOU problem.

Snapped in half mid-use, dangerous
Handle snapped in half after a few months of owning it. Incident happened while in use and rope hit my head. The brand/Amazon says my return window closed after one month. I was unable to get a refund. Waste of $40, bad value. Do yourself a favor, buy something cheaper that will last longer.

Smooth as an El Dorado
I just received my Buddy Lee rope; took it for a test drive and have been favorable impressed. My jump rope history has been sporadic over the last 10 years or so. I have basic skills from boxing in my youth and would jump to develop my wind (I hate running). For about the last 10 years I had been using a nice rope that I bought from IronMind. It was a PVC rope and had enough heft to get some speed going. My teen son had been using it and finally it split from wear. I checked but couldn't find it anymore on IronMind. Still needing a new rope I bought the 'old school' Everlast leather unweighted. It had nice bearing action but with no heft to provide momentum it could not generate any speed. I then ordered the Buddy Lee and we eagerly awaited its arrival. Here are the details: Bearings-- This rope has a very smooth action Handles-- They sit very nicely in my hands. The long handle length is not the gimmick I first thought. It allows you to leverage your wrist motion and really get the speed cranking. Rope-- PVC. It seemed a little light at first but I quickly got used to it's feel. It is thin so If you are jumping on an abrasive surface, it will wear through at some point. Replacement ropes are about $6 on the internet so I will order a few to have around. Overall this rope struck me be its smooth operation. It has a nice flow that is conducive towards pumping out serious RPMs. My son was able to get his first double under in 5 minutes with this rope. The price was a little more than some of the other ropes available but well worth it to me. Since a rope is a once every 5 or 10 year purchase pay the extra $10 and get some quality. Six week update. After using this for six weeks a few points have become clear. 1. You will probably need to buy a few extra ropes (not the whole rope but the part that goes between the handles) This is a precision instrument and as your proficiency increases you shorten your rope. When you are learning a new skill you may need to go back to a longer size. Also if you are jumping with someone else who is a different height or proficiency you will want a replacement rope. Amazon sells ropes for about $6. Interestingly enough the replacement ropes come rolled and so don't have the fold marks that the initial rope has. 2. While you are at it buy an additional set of bearings. My initial set started showing signs of bearings going bad at about two weeks. My son and I were both using the rope fairly heavily (1 hr plus a day). Replacement bearings are $10 and easy to change. The new set has lasted about a month so I don't know if the first set was just not as good but it did peeve me to have my rope at less than 100% so quickly. We are still using the rope daily and it does feel amazing; but my recommendation is to go ahead and get an extra rope and set of bearings upon purchase.

Springseil

GREAT skipping rope!!!
I've had it for a few weeks now and have been using it several times a week! You definitely need to boil the rope when it arrives but that's easy and quick and only needs to be done once. I cut it to make it shorter and then tied knots in it to shorten it a bit more, apparently it shrinks in the cold (weather) and lengthens in the hot (summer time). The only problem I've had is a sore thumb from skipping too much and holding the handle down with my thumb. But I can say it's very light weight and spins like a dream. The only negative is the price. It's just plastic after all... probably costs under $5.00 to produce yet I had to pay over $50...

They wore out too quickly on concrete and got tangled easily with skills
Tried a few similar steel cable ropes that were not of the same design as this. They wore out too quickly on concrete and got tangled easily with skills. Went for this and it's a great rope. Very light and never gets tangled. You can use this on concrete and yes it will wear out eventually but not as quick as the pvc covered steel ones which lasted me 3 days!! Very fast and light would recommend! Excellent service from this seller too quick and fast!
