40V 8 in Pole Saw Hedge Trimmer Kit, 2.0 Ah Battery and Charger

I was impressed with the quality of this product. The chainsaw is well made and very sturdy. The hedge trimmer is heavier than I would like it to be, but workable. In order to get the right height you have to assemble extensions. My old electric pole chainsaw you just unscrewed the attachment and raise and lower to the height that you needed which to me was easier. The pole assembly is well made and not flimsy. It should last I hope.

This works great. I been working on my mother’s hedges for a while now. Wish I had before and after pictures to really show how good this has worked. The hedges were like 20ft tall no joke now 98% of them are like 5ft tall. The pole saw cuts like butter. Battery last a while I get tired of working before the battery dies. Highly recommends.

I picked up this Greenworks 40V 8" Pole Saw and Pole Hedge combo to handle routine trimming around my property—mainly shaping shrubs along the driveway and cutting back lower tree limbs that were starting to hang over the yard. For general maintenance tasks, it performs well and eliminates the need to drag out gas-powered equipment for smaller jobs. The pole saw has enough cutting power for modest branches, and the hedge trimmer attachment makes it easy to square up taller hedges without balancing on a ladder. The 40V platform provides adequate runtime with the included 2.0Ah battery for light to moderate trimming sessions. It’s noticeably quieter and cleaner than gas tools, and I appreciate not dealing with fuel mixing or pull starts. Assembly is straightforward, and switching between attachments doesn’t take long once you’ve done it once or twice. For homeowners maintaining average-sized landscaping, it’s a practical setup. The reason this isn’t a 5-star rating is the weight and balance when fully extended. Overhead work can become tiring fairly quickly, especially when reaching higher limbs. The 2.0Ah battery also limits longer work sessions; if you have a larger property, a higher-capacity battery would likely be necessary. That said, for typical seasonal trimming and yard upkeep, it’s a capable and convenient tool that fits well within a cordless system.

I bought this product because of the long reach and the light weight. I have a very long pole saw that does not have a motor. This product works much better because the non-motorized pole saws tend to oscillate with the branch and makes the cutting process difficult and sloppy. With this product and one extra 2' extension (sold separately) I can trim tree branches pretty high up in my trees. The chainsaw blade is really handy and cuts through 3-4" branches with ease. There is one customer video of the reciprocating blades being stuck with a one-star review. This happened to mine as well after trimming a 1/2" branch. The 1/2" branch sort of bent one of the teeth and then the teeth could not slide past each other, causing the lockup. This was easily fixed by prying the teeth apart with a flathead screwdriver.

I used the pole saw a few times and have had a pretty positive experience with it. It's easy to handle, cuts well and the battery life is reasonable. The main issue is with the chain getting loose and you have to constantly tighten it, which a matter of loosening the bar and pulling on the bar (there is no screw adjustment for the chain as is found on most chain saws). The reason for the single star is for the hedge trimmer and for the abysmal customer service. About 5 minutes into the second use, the hedge trimmer jammed and would no longer function. There are a number of other reviews that mention this issue; they are worth paying attention to - I wish I had. That there is apparently a design issue with these is bad enough, but most egregious is the support you get from Greenworks. On 6/23/21 I call customer service and was put in the queue and was, according to the recording, number 1 in the queue. It was an hour and 28 minutes before I got a representative. I was told the hedge trimmer would be covered under warranty but a replacement would not be available until the end of July and I would need to send an email reconfirming my address on or after 7/26/21 (why was this my responsibility?). I did that on 7/26/21 but received nothing back. I requested status on 7/30/21 but have received no response. Do I want to spend another 1 1/2 hours or more calling in to customer service again? Or do I just go buy another hedge trimmer? If you think this looks like a good deal or a good price, don't believe it. It simply isn't worth the risk and the hassle. Get something more reliable from a company that stands behind the product.

I ordered the 80V version first but didn't like it. The 40v poles fully separate. On the 80 v version the pieces were held together with a wire running the length of the poles so you couldn't separate the pieces. Also when you folded the metal rods up there was chafing and strain on the wire. I think the 40v is all around a better design. You can also remove a section on the 40v system to make it shorter something you can't do on the 80v. Power is more than adequate for most homeowners. I have just under a 1 acre property and the battery died (intermittent usage) just before finishing up the last tree (about 10 of them) . Would have made it all the way through if I had put the battery on the charge when I ran to the dump. All the trees were 30-60 feet in height. Hedge trimmer is the perfect complement to the pole saw. I couldn't have done the job without these tools. Get a tall manual pole saw as well. Probably saved me $600 hiring a professional. Used new motor oil for the bar lube and no problems. For the people complaining that this leaks... Are you serious? Just drain the small tank when you are done and wrap the pole saw in a rag, this isn't a kitchen appliance. Also I plan to weldup and wire a really long 10 or 12 foot extension with a separately purchased pole extension from green works for really tall branches. Really link how you can change the length on these two trimmers. Solid buy for the DIY guy or gal

Pros: The saw has no problems going through 2-inch oak branches, and the hedger is fine with twigs up to about 1/4 inch or so. Two hours of steady work, and the battery is only 50% depleted, showing 2/4 bars on the handy battery indicator. It recharges fully from this in about 30 minutes. I don't feel it necessary to buy an extra battery. Cons: The 8-inch chainsaw bar is on a relatively light engine, which makes it buck quite a bit and makes it well nigh impossible to do controlled undercuts. Both devices at the end of full extension makes every task (especially hedging since it involves a lot of side to side movement) feel like marlin fishing because the weight of the engines and blades are at the end of a 9-10 foot pole. I mean, they work, but handling and maneuverability are poor at full extension. These balance/maneuverability issues do not exist with one pole deployed instead of both poles. Admittedly, I'm not a large guy though I am very familiar with using a gas chainsaw. The balance/maneuverability issues may not be so notable in a taller person. Would I buy it again? Yes. Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes, but would precaution them about the balance/maneuverability issues in full extension.
