Item works as intended. I saw some comments complaining about the height, but the dimensions are clearly stated on the front page…. So make sure you are aware that the baseline height may be higher than what you have now. The most painful thing was getting the old cylinder off. Watched a lot of videos that seemed to only apply to chairs with light to no use as none of it worked for me. Many hours of thumping, cursing, and self reflection to get my old one off. God speed.

I found this product because my office desk task chair recently experienced a failed lift cylinder. I honestly wasn't sure if this replacement would fit or not. After reading the reviews, I decided to take a chance and order. I watched a few youtube videos before hand to see what I was up against. Basically there's very few steps involved to extract the old cylinder, then do the same for the new cylinder. In every video you see someone whacking the base plate of the chair that holds the cylinder. I used a rubber mallet instead of a standard nail hammer. Some reviews recommend using a pipe wrench. I do not own a pipe wrench and I don't understand why you'd even need one for cylinder removal and install. After several attempts with my mallet, I could not get the old cylinder to pop out. Then I just used more muscle, and then BAM!, the old one popped out. I couldn't believe how easy this was. You just have to hit harder if the old cylinder doesn't pop out on the first try. You do the same for the bottom portion where the cylinder is pressed into the chair's wheel (spider shape) mount, also easy. Then you remove the top cap of the new cylinder and kind of lightly tap the new cylinder into place. I used a block of wood over the butt end of the bottom of the cylinder to hit, so I wouldn't damage the new cylinder. It doesn't take as much force pressing/hitting the new cylinder in place. I think body weight and gravity will help seat the new cylinder over time. Super easy install. I'll also note that I decided to upgrade and get the tallest cylinder (5.5"). I think I may have doubled the height at it's highest point compared to how my chair was bought when new. The lowest point is now just below where my old chair use to rest at it's highest. So keep this in mind. You may need to consider whether or not your chair can still be stowed at your desk if your chair has armrests. A taller cylinder might prevent the chair from sliding under your desk if the armrests end up hitting the desktop. My chair still fits, but only if I lower the chair to it's lowest setting. I actually prefer the taller cylinder since I have long legs. I also like that it's almost stool height now, for when I'm playing guitar etc.

Installation was very straightforward, and the lift functionality works like it should.

Easy to install works great. The only down is if you are using this for a Staples Emerge Vortex Bonded Leather Ergonomic Gaming Chair the pneumatic goes lower. At its lowest setting fits me perfectly. Took me 20 minutes to replace watched lots of videos to make sure that I did not mess anything up. I will say for $25 it beats replacing the chair.

I have an oversized office chair from a reputable brand, and one day the gas cylinder went kaput (it was rated for 450 lbs due to it being the Big & Tall model). Under their warranty they shipped me a new cylinder, which arrived from Canada damaged and had lost most of its pressure/resistance so you could push it all the way down just pressing with your hand. Since I had already waited almost two weeks to get my chair working again, I opted to just buy a "heavy duty" cylinder on Amazon. It was delivered to the office within 2-days and is also superior in quality and construction to my previous *two* cylinders. I love that the 5.5" option gives me a little more height (I am 6' 5" and have long legs), and it isn't even a little spongy when I sit down. Although it was a hassle to me that my best option was NOT sticking with the warranty, rather paying for the part out-of-pocket...it was cheaper than most options and performs better than the original did when it was new. For this reason, it's a 5-star product to me between the value and utility I get from it.

When adding a new base to my chair so I could have wheels, the original gas canister was STUCK in the old base. I tried my best but could not get it out, and the manufacturer was useless when I asked for some sort of help (since they sent the wrong chair as I ordered one with wheels and they sent one without). I eventually gave up and ordered this gas lift and it fit perfectly, and lifted the chair a little higher than before. That's a good thing, since I now no longer sit so low at my desk! I don't even have to lift the chair at all, but I did lift it all the way to test it out, and had three people sitting on top of each other in the chair (over 550lbs combined) and it still felt perfectly sturdy). Definitely worth the purchase and not bad price wise.

Product claims to hold up to 1,000 pounds. It cannot hold up my weight of 215 lbs. If you pull the lever, the chair rises, but the moment you sit down on the chair, it slowly hisses and drops to the bottom. When you leave the room and come back to the chair, the chair has extended all the way to the top. If you sit on it, then it hisses and drops to the bottom. It takes force to remove these cylinders, and I want a better product that works, but I am afraid it will damage the defective product when I want to send it back. Don't know what to do.

It's a good lift! It hasn't had any issues for months.

Easy to swap in. Good pressure and sturdy pin. Update: Fizzled out after 1 year. Not really complaining considering the price.
