How close or different is the image quality from an iMac? I'm looking for a second screen for design work, with a similar image.

I'm using 2 of these with my MacBook Pro. I don't have an iMac to compare with but the image quality is about the same as the retina monitor built into the MacBook. I'm pretty satisfied with these monitors overall. My only issue so far is that they take forever to 'power up' and get a signal. It takes ~30 seconds to get video when I turn my dock on. I was very pleased they included all the hardware I'd need to put these in a vesa mount. Great build quality.

Is there 4K 70Hz or is the 70Hz at a lower resolution?

If connected by display port then you should be able to get a 4k signal at 70hz, if connected by HDMI the max refresh rate will be 60Hz when using a 4k signal.
