For almost 20 years, Sears, Roebuck and Company purveyed the materials for complete prefabricated houses, providing thousands of Americans with attractive and comfortable low-cost dwellings. Many of these homes are still a common feature in cities and towns across America. The present volume, a meticulous reproduction of a rare Sears, Roebuck catalog of 1926, provides a thorough, accurate record of the company's "Honor Bilt Modern Homes." Over 300 photographs and illustrations, with full descriptions, offer views of 86 different houses and cottages of widely varying sizes and designs. Readers may recognize familiar architectural styles in designs such as the cozy six-room "Homewood" bungalow or the elegant "Lexington," a nine-room, green-shuttered colonial. Also shown are several room interiors for each of 14 homes, along with photographs and plans for nine garages and a hunter's cabin. In addition to visual documentation, the catalog provides extensive, detailed construction information, ranging from the grade of exterior siding to the type of wood used for flooring, windows, and trim. An invaluable primary source illustrated for anyone engaged in the study, authentication, or restoration of antique homes or furnishings, this period catalog will also be of special value to architectural and social historians, Americana enthusiasts, and general readers. Review: A collectable of sorts.. - Bought this i don't know how...but now I see it as a wonderful bygone era and now I treasure it in my library, I know, I'm silly.. Review: Reprodução de páginas internas de catálogos da Sears & Roebuck, porém com qualidade mediana - A reprodução de algumas páginas, sobretudo as com imagens, são de qualidade baixa, sem definição e com pouca tinta.

What fun to find my home!
Growing-up in Alabama in the early 1940's, living on Main Street and being told 'we live in a Sears & Roebuck house' was always fascinating to me. One year while helping my father do some electrical work in the attic, he pointed out to me a 'brand' on one of the roof beans with a 'model number' written clearly for anybody to see. Yes, I grew-up in a Sears & Roebuck House that cost less than $3,000.00. Years later I continued my research by contacting Sears & Roebuck asking about our home and received a packet of information on our exact home. It was thrilling to see "my home" in the recent book and to read the descriptions of the rooms, light fixtures, etc. It turned-out there were two other Sears & Roebuck homes in our small hometown of less than 3,000 people. When my father sold the house following the death of his wife (my mother), the lady who purchased it did so because it was a Sears & Roebuck House and restored it to its full glory. What a joyous find!
